Couple keeps their neighbor informed about pregnancy through door camera updates

Who would have thought a door camera could capture one of the sweetest things a neighbor can do?

Katie Newton noticed Sydney Melton’s due date had passed, so she used her Ring doorbell to monitor her neighbor’s pregnancy.

She was curious about when Melton would go to the hospital, especially during the week of her due date.

“Once it was the week of her due date, I was curious to know when their car would disappear and when they’d be at the hospital,” said Katie.

The day after Sydney Melton’s due date passed, Katie Newton met her in the apartment hallway.

Newton expressed her curiosity about Melton’s departure from the hospital and mentioned checking her Ring camera for any signs of movement.

Following this, Sydney and Trevor started updating Katie through her doorbell camera.

Newton noticed that whenever the couple walked by, they would inform her if Sydney Melton was still pregnant.

Over time, Newton collected these updates and made a video, which she posted on TikTok.

In the video, Sydney Melton can be seen walking past Newton’s door, saying, “Still pregnant,” to the camera.

Another update saw Trevor cheerfully saying, “Still pregnant.”

After a few updates, the couple can be seen coming home with their baby in a carrier.

“We had the baby,” Sydney Melton whispers to Katie’s door camera.

The husband showed her the baby, and her doorbell camera captured one of the family’s happiest moments.

Then, Trevor whispered, “Not pregnant,” before they went inside their home for the first time as a family.

The video compilation posted on TikTok gained millions of views and likes.

It also got thousands of positive comments, with many suggesting it could be a perfect ad for a doorbell camera.

It also gets the attention of huge companies like Hallmark, YouTube, Amazon, Today, Cinnabon, and Pixar.

Even Ring, the company behind the doorbell camera, left a comment on the video, expressing their appreciation: “So sweet! Msg u, would love to share!”

“Oh, I was so emotional,” Katie said. “I just was beaming. I was, like, smiling ear to ear. I thought it was the cutest thing ever.”

Sydney Melton recalls that her husband’s words also brought out emotions in her. Their baby was born on March 31, shortly after midnight.

Upon returning home with the baby, Sydney felt overwhelmed and a sense of peace.

“I was definitely (in) a bit of a haze. Overwhelming, but also, it was a sense of, like, peace,” Sydney said.

The Melton family express their surprise and gratitude for the positive response to Katie’s viral door camera video.

“We’re the last people who would ever like who you’d ever expect to go viral,” Trevor said.

Trevor, who isn’t active on social media and has a limited view of its impact, acknowledges that this experience has made him reconsider the positive aspects of social media.

There are more sweet things a door camera can capture.

Two siblings have gained attention online for using their Ring doorbell camera to send messages to their deployed father.

In a video posted on Twitter in 2019, the siblings are shown recording messages for their dad, who served in Kuwait then.

Due to the 8-hour time difference, communicating with their father, who spent a significant portion of 2018 and 2019 overseas, was challenging.

Army Major Peter DeCrans found solace in his family’s Ring doorbell system, which delivered daily heartfelt videos from his children.

The door camera became a means for 5-year-old Petroula and 7-year-old Zerick to keep in touch with their deployed dad, sharing stories about their day and knowing he would listen.

The messages were full of “I miss yous,” “I love yous,” and updates about everyday happenings, such as someone getting a haircut or achieving milestones like learning how to ride a bike.

The tweet has been viewed by millions and shared by thousands of people.
