A couple, both interior designers, have a cat whose heart got broken as they must get rid of her favorite couch.
Their solution: to build her a miniature replica sofa!
The couple, Chris and Gunnar shared a viral Instagram video of themselves creating a mini version of their old couch for their cat Beebs, who lost her favorite spot.

The video gained popularity on @interiormotivehome’s account.
“This is a story about our cat Beebs, and this was her favorite couch. But unfortunately, we had to get rid of it, and she was confused about where to lay. But we had a plan,” the video’s text overlay said.
They added on the post that they decided to build Beebs a realistic mini couch using their curtain fabric for the upholstery and tufted the cushions, reminding her of the old couch.
“And guess what? She fell in love,” it concluded.

The interior designers had to discard the old couch because Beebs had damaged it.
Beebs, a 13-year-old cat with a playful personality, had a history of moving homes before settling with her current owners.
“She was the runt of her litter and a needy little baby,” her owner said, revealing that Beebs enjoys sunbathing, chewing on things she should not be, and lounging on anything she finds comfortable.

Beebs especially loved the soft texture of the old mustard-colored couch, which she turned into her scratching post.
The interior designers decided to buy extra curtains they had for their living room to make the new couch fit in nicely.
The curtains were soft like velvet. They hoped Beebs would like them as much as the old couch and that it would stop her from scratching their new leather sofas.

At first, they weren’t sure if Beebs would like the new small furniture, but she loves it!
“As long as we keep moving it around our house, so it feels like something new, we think it’ll continue to be her new favorite sitting spot,” her owner said.
The video quickly became popular on Instagram, receiving over 113,000 likes.
Users left comments expressing their admiration for the couple’s gesture.

But why do cats love to scratch their owner’s furniture?
Scientists have found that cats who feel emotionally connected to their humans are likelier to scratch furniture.
The reason for this connection is still unknown. However, researchers discovered that cats who scratched furniture the most were often those with a strong bond with their owners.
This conclusion was drawn from interviews with cat owners, where they described their cats’ personalities and behaviors in detail.
The study also revealed that cat owners might accept and tolerate scratching behavior more than other undesirable behaviors, such as aggression or meowing excessively.

Interestingly, cat parents who didn’t report scratched furniture tended to have less emotional closeness with their cats, based on their responses about their cats’ behaviors and personalities.
The researchers concluded in their report that cats’ behavior shapes the emotional bond between cats and their owners.
Cats are often more social creatures than we realize, showing deep affection for their human companions. However, despite their love, they may still scratch furniture.
Dr. Vanessa Spano, a veterinarian at Behavior Vets in Colorado, advises against trying to stop this behavior entirely.
Instead, she suggests redirecting it toward suitable scratching posts or cat scratchers.
It seems Beebs loves her owners very much!
