At a recent wedding, a man surprised his cousin with a performance of the opera song “Nessun Dorma.”
The moment, captured on video and posted on TikTok by Jason Berger (@jasonberger05), quickly went viral. The clip garnered 143,000 views and over 10,000 likes.
Jason, 33, later told Newsweek how he used his opera skills to make the event special and shared the positive response from the crowd.
“I decided to surprise my cousin at his wedding in Brazil by singing ‘Nessun Dorma,'” Jason, an operatic tenor singer in Wilmington, Delaware, captioned the video.

Berger chose to perform “Nessun Dorma” because he knew it could evoke strong emotions.
While touring the bride’s hometown, she invited him to sing at the wedding, which inspired his decision.
“Opera is my training, and I knew the song would highlight my strengths,” he explained.
His performance deeply resonated with the audience, leading many commenters to praise the emotion in his voice.
One viewer remarked that Pavarotti would be proud. Another added that it would have been criminal if he hadn’t sung this beautiful gift to his cousin and family and called him “absolutely phenomenal.”

One commenter shared a personal connection, saying it brought a tear to their eye because it was their grandad’s favorite song, which they played at his funeral a few years ago.
They expressed gratitude for returning all their fond memories of him.
After his performance, many praised Berger’s singing talents. He shared that his cousin and several guests were surprised by his ability and found the experience emotional.
He also noted that his cousin did not know he would sing, but his bride did.
While the audience enjoyed his rendition, Jason emphasized that his cousin and bride were his main focus.
He expressed that singing at his cousin’s wedding meant a lot, as he is his only first cousin.
Jason also shared his passion for singing, stating that he wants to contribute positively to his community.
“If I can brighten someone’s day through my abilities, that is amazing,” he said.

‘Nessun Dorma’
“Nessun Dorma,” which means “Let no one sleep” or “None shall sleep,” is the opening line of the aria in Italian.
Giacomo Puccini began writing the opera Turandot in 1920, inspired by an 18th-century play by Count Carlo Gozzi, Classical Music noted.
Unfortunately, Puccini passed away before finishing the work, so Franco Alfano completed the opera.
The aria is sung by Calaf, the Unknown Prince, in the final act of *Turandot*. He falls in love with the cold Princess Turandot, who challenges him with three riddles.
To her surprise, Calaf answers them correctly, unlike her other suitors. To win her love, he gives her a new challenge: she must discover his true name before dawn or marry him.
“Nessun Dorma” gained worldwide fame in the 1990s when tenor Luciano Pavarotti performed it at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, enchanting audiences everywhere.
This performance helped make football more popular during that decade. The aria was later sung by The Three Tenors, featuring Pavarotti, Plรกcido Domingo, and Josรฉ Carreras.
