Teen spends 3 years in a high school project to build a house from scratch and ends up owning it

Putting your heart into a project is like planting seeds of hard work and love. You help them grow despite challenges, and finally enjoy the sweet fruits of success.

Victoria Turner, an 18-year-old from Colorado, built a house with her classmates. After three years of hard work, she is now the proud owner of that house! Victoria was part of Liberty High School’s building and construction class.

It is a project that was joined by more than 100 high school students to build a 1,200-square-foot house.

“It feels really good that I was a part of this,” Victoria said, stating that her decision to join the project was personal.

Victoria’s journey started when she decided to join the program because of her childhood dream.

“Since I was seven or eight, I wanted to go into construction because I wanted to be like my brother,” she shares.

Four years ago, she seized the opportunity to be part of a class where they built a house, and she applied for it.

Victoria and her peers from different high schools in the Academy School District 20 dedicated their time to various tasks to complete the house.

“For the most part, I pretty much did a lot of the carpentry, which is floorboard and stuff like that,” she said.

Victoria, mainly focused on carpentry, plumbing, drywall, and working on the house’s exterior, spent three hours a day, every other day, totaling six to nine hours a week on the project.

To her surprise, when the house was nearly finished, Victoria’s parents decided to buy it.

She overheard a conversation about a potential buyer and, in a joking manner, suggested her mom could buy it.

To her amazement, her mom was genuinely interested, and the family eventually became the proud owners of the house.

During a ceremony at Liberty High School, Victoria was presented with the keys to her new home, where she and her sister will now live.

This home has significant financial benefits for them.

“Nowadays, it’s pretty expensive, so we won’t have to rent an apartment or any of that. It’s really nice to have our own little place,” Victoria said.

This home-building project won’t be a one-time event; another will start next year. Victoria’s father, Mr. Turner, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity provided by District 20.

“I think it’s wonderful that District 20 allows this opportunity for people that don’t want to go on to college to have an opportunity to maybe get some trade to make a living,” Mr. Turner said.

Victoria graduated in May and has already secured a job at a local roofing company. In a male-dominated field, she stands out as a female roofer and finds it pretty cool.

Victoria sees her role as a female in construction as a positive change for the future.

She says, “Being a female in construction is a great pathway. Changing the workforce would be great for changing the world for the future.”

The story of Victoria’s dedication and success goes beyond the tangible rewards. It highlights personal growth, fulfillment, and the development of invaluable skills.

Her dedication led to the completion of a successful project and paved the way for future achievements.

The lessons learned, and resilience developed during this experience are assets that will propel her towards even greater accomplishments.

In this story of dedication and reward, each step shows a choice, a sacrifice, and a triumph.

It’s a story of hard work, determination, and the satisfaction of giving your all to a project and witnessing the fruits of your labor.

Victoria’s story is an inspiring example of how dedication can turn dreams into reality, creating a better future for herself and others.
