How do you cope with stress? People have different ways of coping with it. Some like to go to the gym and release all their rage in a good workout. Others spend their time in a bath surrounded by scented candles, all while listening to calming music or reading a good book. Have you heard of rage yoga?
To release the tension, some people like to scream, shout, and curse all they want. While others resort to drinking until they forget what they were stressing about.
Numerous studies suggest that yoga is beneficial to health. Its benefits include improved immune system, increased happiness, and relief from pain and stress.
But sometimes, people may feel that yoga is too slow. Some might think that it doesn’t offer immediate relief from the raging stress that most individuals are looking for. Yoga is peaceful, quiet, and zen. But not all folks would achieve tranquility by listening to the hum of a Tibetan Singing Bowl, right?
Good news to those who don’t like the zen and peace while folding themselves silently like a pretzel: Rage Yoga might be your new favorite de-stressor. It is the complete antithesis of conventional yoga, as it involves loud music, middle fingers, and lots of yelling and swearing. And the best thing about this? You get to drink beer instead of drinking water!
What is Rage Yoga all about? It’s all about breathing, stretching, mood draws, yoga postures, and a lot of bad humor.
Lindsay Istace, the founder of Rage Yoga, says that it is “an alternative yoga for the modern bad-ass”. Rage Yoga offers online courses, but they also have three physical locations in Edmonton in Canada, Calgary, and Houston in Texas.
Ashley Duzich, a Rage Yoga instructor in Houston, told CBS DFW that “the practice allows you to have a safe space to let go of your frustration and rage in a healthy way and wash it all away with some ice cold beer.”
She added, “Some people need to release and let go. We are all angry about something and we all have been holding onto an “F”-bomb for a little bit too long.”
Screaming at your wife about how annoying she is isn’t really that productive. But screaming about your wife while you are on a yoga mat far away from her – and chugging some beer after – is what’s productive.
Imagine getting into the Downward Dog position. You feel the blood pooling in your head. You feel pissed because your wife is hanging the toilet paper the wrong way. Your face is feeling hot and you blurt out — “It’s supposed to hang OVER, not UNDER! F*CK!”
With Rage Yoga, cooling down with a beer in front of you is something that will make you feel more zen in your life than you’ve ever been. You go home with a toilet paper that hangs backward, but you feel weightless. Relaxed.
