Couple transformed pre-made shed into 96-sq-ft backyard tiny home with earning potential!

Two women turned a backyard shed into a tiny home and listed it on Airbnb for potential income.

Mariryan and Heather initially built a 12×8 shed in their backyard as an art studio.

“We decided a couple of years ago to convert that to a tiny house and list it on Airbnb,” said Mariryan.

The renovation lasted about 6 months and cost under $30,000, including the shed’s initial $10,000 cost and $17,000 to $18,000 for interior design.

They now welcome guests to their “Surf Shack,” a 12×8 cozy tiny home.

The tiny home features a kitchen with herringbone butcher block countertops that they maintain for durability.

It has views of the pool, trees, and vibrant surfboards, reflecting their design inspiration.

The backyard shed turned into a tiny home’s ocean-themed design includes scallop tiles with octopus motifs and a thoughtful color scheme.

The tiny home also features a foldable loft ladder that neatly stows away when the couch is in use, ensuring efficient space utilization.

A small workspace showcases a creative epoxy project with teal-colored resin depicting sea creatures and bubbles, enhancing the decor’s unique aesthetic.

Designed for functionality, the flexible layout allows the couch to be moved for extra space. At the same time, chairs can be extended to provide additional workspace.

Despite its size, the home cleverly incorporates a twin sleeper sofa, overcoming the challenge of fitting large furniture into a limited space.

The owners maximized every inch of their small home with clever storage solutions, including discreetly placed hooks.

Despite the tight quarters, the tiny home features a loft area, with a cedar ceiling that serves as a sleeping area.

They reflect on the challenges of working there during a hot August, describing it as cramped and uncomfortable, emphasizing the importance of timing their construction projects to avoid Florida’s scorching summer temperatures.

The tiny home has a shower room/bathroom called “Shathroom” which features a custom barn door and other unique designs.

They integrated a drain cover into the bathroom’s theme, blending beehive patterns above and ocean motifs below.

They added a playful touch with an octopus-shaped shower drain and a large octopus decal behind the toilet.

The bathroom is a favorite because of its rain shower and Nature’s Head composting toilet, which were chosen because they are eco-friendly and practical for their septic system.

The backyard Oasis is the owners’ favorite spot. It features a pool area with an Oasis theme, with trees, fountains, and decorative rocks that create a cozy ambiance.

Despite rarely needing it due to Florida’s warmth, they mention having a fire pit for added charm.

The backyard shed turned into a tiny home and also has an outdoor bar with a stunning live edge design. The owners chose this style to enhance the beauty of reclaimed wood.

Artistic details include sea life paintings under epoxy resin on the bar top.

The bar seats are crafted from silkwood discs, embellished with epoxy, and set on the bar.

It’s a delightful spot for guests to relax and enjoy the backyard atmosphere.

The backyard also boasts gardens to enhance its natural beauty, reflecting the owners’ passion for creativity and environmental stewardship throughout the outdoor space.

One of the gardens is designated for non-edible plants and their edible garden had to be relocated to the front due to some issues.

They proudly display their crops: collard greens, broccoli, cauliflower, and lettuce.

Heather also shows their rabbits’ spacious habitat, with fans, a watering system, and multiple levels.

She playfully mentioned that the rabbits’ home is larger than their tiny house.

Meanwhile, the rabbits play a vital role by providing valuable manure for their compost, which helps enrich the soil and grow tasty vegetables.

The tiny home also has a new back porch that provides extra outdoor space.

“This back porch of the tiny house allows for you to come outside and just, you know, enjoy the nice day or, you know, even give your partner some space inside if you want to need a break from them,” Heather joked.

Despite its small size of 36 square feet, the owners emphasize how it significantly enhances the feel of their tiny house.
