A United Airlines pilot, a bone marrow recipient, had an extraordinary moment during a recent flight in Houston, Texas.
Eight years after receiving a life-saving transplant, Captain David Whitson learned that his donor was among the passengers.
Picking up the loudspeaker, he announced the emotional discovery to everyone on board, sharing that Alexandria Reimold, the person who saved his life, was traveling with them.
David walked back to the cabin and embraced Alexandria, his life-saving bone marrow donor. The passengers, moved by the story, erupted into applause.
Among them, Laura LoGiudice, touched by the heartwarming scene, began recording the reunion.

Both smiling with joy, the bone marrow recipient and his donor shared a brief but meaningful connection before the plane departed.
David thanked Alexandria, telling passengers he is now “doing fantastic” because of her selfless act.
He shared his story with the crowd, emphasizing the power of generosity and the life-changing impact of kindness.
“This young lady saved my life,” the pilot, a bone marrow recipient, announced to his crew and passengers.
The pilot explained that the woman was an even closer donor match than his brother, underscoring their connection’s incredible luck.
Calling her a “true hero,” the bone marrow recipient embraced his donor again, prompting heartfelt applause from passengers who were moved by the extraordinary reunion.

David shared with PEOPLE the devastating moment his life took a sudden turn in 2016.
What began as a trip to the emergency room for a severe headache and flu-like symptoms quickly turned into a life-or-death battle.
Doctors delivered a grim messageโhis only chance of survival was a bone marrow transplant, leaving him and his family grappling with an uncertain future.
Thankfully, a match was found in Alexandria, who had signed up as a bone marrow donor at 18 while studying at Purdue University.
At 22, she never imagined her decision to join the Be the Match registry would lead to saving someone’s life.
“I didn’t think twice about it when I signed up,” she recalls. “It seemed like a really great opportunity. The chances of matching are pretty low, so it was just one of those things โ why wouldn’t you sign up for this? I had no idea what it would lead to.”

After David’s successful bone marrow transplant in 2018, he and donor Alexandria were contacted by Be The Match, asking if they wanted to connect. They quickly responded and began exchanging messages.
Their online connection led to a face-to-face reunion at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, where they shared emotional moments, including an interview and a heartfelt hug.
As David embraced Alexandria, he whispered, “You saved my life,” expressing his gratitude for her life-saving donation.
Since their reunion, Reimold and Whitson have stayed in touch. To show his gratitude, Whitson added Reimold to his United Airlines benefits.
When he realized their flights would overlap at the same airport, he saw a chance to make the moment even more special.
After landing, David had just 40 minutes before her flight was scheduled to leave.
He had contacted the captain the day before to ask for permission. He received approval from the gate agents to make the surprise happen.

“So I just made a little passenger address to the passengers, told them who I was and what was going on,” David shared.
David was surprised when a passenger captured the emotional moment on his flight and shared it on TikTok, where it quickly went viral, reaching over 600,000 views.
Reflecting on the timing, he notes that his bone marrow transplant will mark its eighth anniversary on December 21.
He recalls being in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy at this time eight years ago. He sees this period as a time of miracles.
David, a bone marrow recipient, hopes his story can raise awareness and bring joy to others.
As their story continues to inspire many, Reimold and Whitson use this moment to encourage others to get tested.
They hope to motivate more people to become donors, potentially saving lives like Alexandria saved David’s.
“I have been so excited to see people care about this,” Alexandria says.
Alexandria is a two-time bone marrow donor who encourages others not to fear the process.
While many people are intimidated by the idea of donation, he assures them that it’s much less frightening than it may seem.
“By giving up a day to sit in a hospital and chit-chat with some nurses, you can then go on to save someone’s life,” she adds.
