After several days of trying, this patient shop assistant finally got to take a portrait of all her 17 cats and dogs.

We all know how hard it is to take a photo of our pets, especially when they’re not the type who’s good at following commands. So when Kathy Smith, a resident of Corwen, Wales, managed to get her 17 cats and dogs to sit together long enough for her to snap a photo, she felt ecstatic!

“I was so thrilled when I realized I’d captured this shot — it’s like a little family photo,” Kathy told the Daily Mail.

The 30-year-old shop assistant said that getting her pets to sit together was far from an easy task. She could get her dogs to sit still with treats, but it was an entirely different story with her cats. She had to chase the felines around multiple times to put them back in their places because they kept on leaving their spot.

“I now know the real meaning behind herding cats,” she said. “I had to just keep picking them up and putting them back until they stayed.”

Over several days, Kathy tried her best to take a photo of the 17-strong pack until she got the perfect shot!

“It took about three attempts but in the end I managed to keep them there for a couple of seconds and get the photo before they were off again,” she recalled. “We live in quite a chaotic house but you get used to it.”

Of the 17 pets, eight of them were dogs – Ruby, Ben, Max, Sheba, Teddy, Rio, Storm, and Mishka. The rest are cats named Dinky, Jakie, Opal, Paddy, Socks, Safi, Cinders, Dusty, and Smokey.

“I love all of my pets so much so I was really happy when I managed to get them all posing together — despite it not being easy to do,” she added.

The shop assistant lives in a three-bedroom home with all her pets, which also included four Budgerigar birds, several fish, and a baby hedgehog. Kathy also rescues and cares for other wildlife in need.

“People are usually shocked when they come over and realize how many pets we have, the house is mad but we’re used to it,” she said. “They all run around and you don’t realize there’s a lot of them until they’re in one room.”

Just in time for the holidays, Kathy now has a perfect photo of her pet family!
