People urge man to divorce his wife after she believes her psychic friend’s cheating claim

A psychic friend ruined a marriage when she lied to the wife about her husband cheating on her.

A Reddit user named “Successful-Top3827” is divorcing his wife because her friend, who says she’s psychic, falsely accused him of cheating.

He shared his story on the “AITAH” or “Am I the a–hole here” subreddit on May 3, where people ask if they’re in the wrong in a situation.

This subreddit is similar to the “Am I the A–hole” subreddit.

Successful-Top3827 talked about meeting his wife, Rhona, in college, assuming her education implied common sense.

They lived together for two years before marrying.

At their wedding, he met one of Rhona’s friends, Anna, who claimed to be part gypsy and offered to read his palm, which he found odd.

“I am in construction and I know a few people from that group, and they call themselves Roma,” he said.

Successful-Top3827 said that Anna, a seamstress in New York City, doesn’t visit often.

He and his wife saw the psychic friend only about four times in the past two years, with the latest encounter being on Labor Day in 2023 before Rhona’s behavior suddenly became strange.

“She starts checking in on me at work. Coming by when I’m working late. Asking to use my phone because hers is almost out of power. That sort of thing.”

Rhona accused Successful-Top3827 of cheating, initially taken as a joke by him.

When he laughed it off and denied it, Rhona got furious as Anna had allegedly predicted that he would laugh off the accusation when confronted about the truth.

Successful-Top3827 found the idea of him having an affair laughable, given his hectic work schedule and the fact that he’s mostly with his wife when not at work.

He stressed his love for his wife and his commitment to never hurting her.

“And yet she takes the word of Anna the psychic seamstress over mine,” Successful-Top3827 wrote.

Rhona asked Successful-Top3827 to leave, but he couldn’t because he had nowhere to stay.

Instead, Rhona moved in with her parents, who thought her actions were irrational.

Over the next few months, Successful-Top3827 tried to assure his wife he wasn’t cheating.

The situation persisted until Christmas when Rhona’s family intervened to address the issue.

“They said my wife was having a break from reality and that she wasn’t coming out of it. My dad told me to give my head a shake, which he only does when I am being monumentally stupid,” he said.

Successful-Top3827 said he started the divorce proceedings in January.

Three months later, in April, Rhona contacted him, revealing that she and her parents had hired a private detective to prove his alleged affair.

After six months and a substantial bill, they found no evidence of infidelity.

Rhona now believed him and wanted to reconcile.

Successful-Top3827 moved to Denver to be closer to his family as their lease ended in July.

Despite Rhona’s suggestion to come home, he declined, citing their incompatibility.

Deep down, he acknowledged that he didn’t want his future children to inherit any traits from Rhona.

“The truth is I do not want to have my offspring share DNA with this dingbat,” he said.

Rhona’s family is upset about Successful-Top3827’s decision to divorce.

They’ve approached him multiple times, even offering a down payment on a house if he agrees to marriage counseling instead.

However, he declined, saying he couldn’t be bought. Despite Rhona’s depression, he can’t see himself trusting her again.

He worries she might marry someone else and cause similar problems.

He asked everyone “AITAH?”

On the AITAH subreddit, users can respond to posts by labeling the poster as “NTA” (Not the A-hole), “YTA” (You’re the A-hole), “NAH” (No A-holes Here), or “ESH” (Everyone Sucks Here).

They can also upvote helpful comments and downvote ones they disagree with.

Almost all of the 2,400 comments on the post agreed that Successful-Top3827 was “NTA” and should continue with the divorce.

Commenters noted that Rhona’s trust in a psychic over her husband was a sign the marriage was over.

They also criticized her decision to hire a private investigator based on baseless suspicions.

The general advice was for Successful-Top3827 to move on from the situation.

  1. Why did you marry? Maybe you needed to date a few more years,to look earn your partner.there was no trust in your marriage. I think you should listen to the heart not to a fortune teller.you need to talk more and both need to be very honest with each other.
