He flew to Paris with four cats—and now he shares his cat training tips for stress-free travel

Traveling with pets can feel overwhelming, but one seasoned traveler proves it doesn’t have to be. With the right cat training tips, flying with feline companions can be smooth, stress-free, and even joyful.

Lazar Joksimovic, 27, is gaining attention for his thoughtful approach to air travel with his cats, Louie and Todd.

From international flights to bathroom breaks midair, he’s mastered the art of jet-setting with pets and sharing his journey to inspire others.

He recently flew to Paris with a friend and their four cats, showing that even long-haul international travel with pets is possible with the proper planning.

Consistency and calm: His first cat training tips begin early

For Lazar, success in the skies starts long before takeoff. He leaves nothing to chance when it comes to traveling with his cats. In fact, he plans for trips months ahead of time.

He reserves seats early, checks airline pet policies, and ensures all veterinary records are in order.

That includes up-to-date vaccinations and obtaining the necessary health and travel certificates, which vary depending on whether the trip is domestic or international.

On travel day, Louie and Todd are comfortably settled in soft-sided carriers. Lazar also brings a pet stroller to easily navigate the airport, and he always packs travel litter to keep the journey clean and stress-free.

He estimates he flies internationally with his cats about three times a year. While it might sound like a challenge to most pet owners, Lazar says it’s more than manageable with the proper preparation.

“The first flight we went on, they were four and a half months old,” he shares to PEOPLE. “When kittens are that young, they don’t really know what’s going on, so they’re a lot more chill by default.”

That early exposure made a big difference. Since then, Louie and Todd have adjusted well to air travel and now know what to expect when boarding a plane.

Cat training tips: Gradual exposure builds confidence

A significant part of Lazar’s approach involves gradually introducing his cats to the outside world.

He began taking them on leashed walks every one to two days, choosing quiet places like side streets and empty playgrounds at night.

As the cats grew more confident, he exposed them to busier locations—parks during the day, shopping centers, and, eventually, active city streets.

The transition took time, but Lazar remained patient. He reinforced every step with praise and plenty of treats, helping Louie and Todd associate new environments with positive experiences.

“Then the more flights we went on, the more laid back they got,” he continues. “Todd was always chill. He was just a very chill cat to begin with. Louie was more skittish. But after a couple of flights, they got used to the whole process.”

Today, the two-year-old cats are used to loud noises, crowds, and tight spaces—key elements of travel that can unsettle untrained pets.

Cat training tips that work midair

Once onboard, Louie and Todd tend to settle in quickly.

Lazar says they usually spend 15 to 20 minutes observing their surroundings before drifting off to sleep.

He has trained them to gently nudge him when using the bathroom. He carries them to the back of the plane in response, where he discreetly sets up a portable litter box.

Lazar often shares these moments in his TikTok videos, which offer followers a behind-the-scenes look at flying with pets.

His clips show calm, curious cats navigating airports, boarding flights, and relaxing midair—which many viewers find inspiring and heartwarming.

Not all flights go perfectly, but minimal stress typically resolves potential issues.

“If we have someone who has allergies sitting close to us, they usually just exchange seats with someone who doesn’t have allergies,” he explains.

Most passengers understand, and many are surprised by how well-behaved Louie and Todd are.

A warm welcome from the crew and passengers

Even airline crews are impressed. Lazar recalls several moments when pilots have stepped out of the cockpit to meet Louie and Todd, often complimenting their calm behavior and wishing them a pleasant flight.

The comments on Lazar’s videos reflect the same positivity.

Viewers often admire how chill the cats are and thank him for demonstrating what’s possible with proper training.

Thanks to these well-documented cat training tips, Lazar is helping more people see that flying with pets isn’t just doable—it can be a positive, even joyful experience when done right.
