This property off the coast of Vancouver is proof that you don’t always need a huge space to build a vacation home of your own – sometimes, all you need is just a hundred square feet!
Kris and Ali is a newly-engaged couple who wanted to create a place that they could share with their friends and family. To help turn their vision into a reality, they sought the help of local firm Trim Studio.
Their design requirements were typical – the pair wanted to have a living room, bathroom, kitchen, wood-burning stove, bedroom, patio, outdoor shower, and a place to store logs in their vacation home. However, the structure couldn’t go over 16 feet tall and must remain 100-square-feet in size.

With these specifications in mind, Trim Studio began constructing the Galiano 100 in a secluded area in Vancouver. They made the home northeast-facing and installed floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors in front. Above the entrance, they installed large windows.
The interiors of the Galiano 100 give off an airy vibe. The designers chose a mostly light-neutral palette for the inside and accented it with black lower cabinets in the kitchen. The combination of this aesthetic and natural lighting makes the space appear a lot bigger than it actually is.
Trim Studio also employed footage-saving techniques to maximize the limited space. The bathroom is hidden under the stairs and the bedroom is a loft. Any lighting is also placed in the ceiling.
Because of the natural surroundings, it is expected that the couple will spend a lot of time outdoors, so Trim Studio made sure that even if the Galiano 100 is just a hundred square feet, it wouldn’t lack outdoor features. The property is equipped with a wood porch with an outdoor shower, grill, and log storage. Walk past the front steps and you will find a secondary deck with a jacuzzi and Adirondack chairs perfect for lounging.
