A young couple showed how to convert a school bus into a tiny home, and the result is amazing!

YouTuber Chay announced plans to transform a 40-foot school bus into his own tiny home.

In fact, he described the project as the largest and most expensive video they’ve ever undertaken.

“I can’t believe it, but we’re doing this again,” Chay said.

The project started with purchasing a full-sized school bus, selected for its strong engine and reliability.

The goal was to build a cozy, stylish home on wheels and break free from the cycle of paying rent.

Though the process was challenging, it ultimately brought the satisfaction of turning a dream into reality.

One of the major challenges in this DIY project was raising the bus’s roof by nearly four feet. This task was crucial for expanding the living space and creating a more comfortable home.

The ambitious modification allowed for nine-foot ceilings and a second story in the back of the bus, significantly enhancing the sense of space.

This complex process, which involved cutting off and lifting the roof with custom-built jacks designed by Chay’s father, improved the bus’s livability and paved the way for the following impressive interior design.

After securing the roof, Chay focused on the interior. The floor was layered with plastic and closed-cell foam for insulation, ensuring comfort in various weather conditions.

A thick subfloor was added to prevent flexing and provide a solid base for the living space.

With the structural work done, Chay focused on designing the interiors to be both luxurious and functional, ensuring the bus felt like a real home.

The bathroom was a highlight, designed for a spa-like experience with dual shower heads and luxurious tiles.

This attention to detail continued throughout the bus, ensuring every space was functional and inviting.

The back of the bus housed the master bedroom and a two-story office. The office’s curved ceiling added character and height, making it a perfect spot for work or relaxation.

This clever design showcased Chay’s creativity, making the bus a functional and beautiful home.

The master bedroom, though cozy, felt spacious and served as a comfortable retreat, rounding out the private quarters of the tiny home.

The kitchen stood out with its full-sized appliances, including a refrigerator, washer, and dryer. Custom cabinets with frosted glass panels added a sleek, modern look.

Despite the bus’s compact size, the kitchen was both practical and stylish, making the most of every inch and creating an inviting space for cooking and dining.

The next task was fitting large water tanks beneath the bus. It features three types: a freshwater tank for clean water, a gray tank for wastewater from the sink and shower, and a black tank for toilet waste.

“Now, according to Google, the average black tank size for an RV is 15 to 50 gallons. Mine is going to be 200!” said Chay.

The black tanks are notably large, capable of managing around 250 flushes before requiring emptying. In addition, the freshwater tank and the gray tank each hold 100 gallons.

The bus included a roof deck, perfect for relaxation. The fold-down railings ensured the bus stayed within legal height limits while on the road, and safety cables were added for security.

This deck became even more special for Chay, as he used it for a surprise marriage proposal to his girlfriend, adding a sentimental touch to the already unique tiny home.

After months of hard work, the bus was finally completed, turning into a stylish and functional home on wheels.
