A woman enjoys living in a cozy and efficient custom-designed tiny home, filled with special features and luxurious touches, creating a perfect retreat for relaxation.
Tisa Wheeler, new to tiny home living, embraced the motto “live tiny, travel big” despite initial challenges.
Choosing this lifestyle to save money and simplify her life, she now enjoys more resources for travel and adventures.
With monthly costs comparable to rent in Dallas, she benefits from significant savings and greater flexibility in her RV park, the “Badlands,” designed by Utopian Villa.

“When I designed the kitchen with my builder, one thing I wanted was to get the luxury of a regular home into my tiny home,” Tisa said.
The kitchen features a waterfall-edge quartz countertop, pullouts for storage, and an internal composter powered by electricity, highlighting her sustainable approach.
Tisa’s preference for a large single sink and elegant gold accents throughout the house reflects her personalized style.

She loves the ample storage in her custom-designed tiny home, including a corner piece that fits larger items.
She also chose glass for one cabinet to showcase white items while keeping the other closed to hide clutter.
Instead of an oven, she opted for a convenient convection microwave and enjoys her favorite feature, a five-burner gas stove, which enhances her cooking experience.
She also has a full-size dishwasher, which is helpful since she uses many dishes. Her tiny home strikes a balance between space and appliances.

Although she has some full-size appliances, she sacrificed refrigerator size, which has been sufficient for her needs.
The only downside is the absence of a true ice maker, but the partial one she has worked fine for her.
Tisa enjoys her pantry but initially finds it too deep to reach due to her height. She contacted the builder, who added pullouts for easier access.

Meanwhile, she also had electrical sockets installed for a pullout coffee bar to maintain a clean look.
Additionally, she created a bar in a space originally for a hot water heater after switching to a tankless model.
Her favorite aspect of the kitchen is that it feels like a regular kitchen, and she appreciates its convenience, layout, and modern design.
“When I was looking at what tiny home I wanted, functionality was key. I was impressed with the quality of Utopian Villa’s building process,” she said.
Tisa’s desired design features weren’t available in any of the models, so the builder offered a custom-designed tiny home by combining elements from different models.
Although she was concerned about the cost, she ultimately spent around $225,000.

This model can be purchased for less without the custom features, like a built-in bed or bathroom mural, which may not appeal to everyone.
She chose a full-size washer tower for the extra capacity needed for her two dogs, and the combined washer and dryer have been essential for her.
Tisa was excited about her bedroom during the custom build.
She opted for a queen bed, but since the space plan didn’t work, she had the builder create a custom bed.
This design included a cover for the mini-split and added storage areas. The bed also lifts up and features outlets, including USB and USC ports.
Below, there’s a pullout drawer for seasonal clothes, while the middle section holds her soaker tub.

Another drawer is for socks, underwear, and pajamas. Everything is neatly organized, keeping the space clean.
Tisa also wanted her dogs to be comfortable in their new home, so she got a cozy bed for her rat terrier, which he loves.
Concerned about storing her clothes, she went to IKEA for built-ins after realizing she didn’t need all of them and plans to declutter.
In her Utopian Villa Badlands bathroom, Tisa aimed for a spacious design. She chose a classic marble shower with gold accents and a multi-function shower with two heads.

The toilet is a standard flushable due to the community’s full water access.
Inside the cabinets, she organized her jewelry with fun wallpaper and hooks. The center includes a Bluetooth speaker with color-changing lights, a playful touch, and a handy makeup station.
Overall, this bathroom design has been more convenient and functional than any she has had before.
Tisa loves her living room, especially the built-in doggy door. She has a full-size couch from her old apartment, designed to fit its size, and chose durable leather for her dogs.
The automatic blinds are handy since she can’t reach them, and dressers from her previous bedroom offer good storage.

She also has a record player and a cabinet full of records. The room is comfortable, seats six, and the tall ceilings create an open feel.
Tisa’s loft area is her workspace, which she calls her flex space since it’s versatile and only requires her laptop.
On the side, she has a secret door leading to a good-sized room with a double bed and mini-split, used for coats and guests now. It has a pocket door for privacy.

Her patio, which can seat six people, is spacious because her community doesn’t allow sheds.
Tisa organized storage zones, designating one area as her garage and another as her utility room, helping her keep everything in order.
“If I were to advise anyone wanting to go tiny, I would say stay in one first to understand the space. Figure out your lifestyle needs. Every part of a tiny home makes a big difference. Use your imagination, have options, be creative, and have fun with it. Make your home the way you like it,” she said.
