Volkswagen is an indisputable household name in the vehicle manufacturing industry. In 2016, the German automaker was hailed as the world’s largest by sales and kept this title through 2017 and 2018, selling 10.8 million cars. For over two decades, the company has maintained the largest market share in the whole of Europe.

One of the brand’s most beloved cars is the nostalgia-inducing microbus, which was discontinued in 2013 due to safety concerns such as the lack of airbags and anti-lock brakes.

In a 2015 scandal, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a notice of violation against against Volkswagen. The car manufacturer was accused of intentionally programming their diesel vehicles to make sure that they pass emissions tests when in reality, they emitted much higher outputs in actual driving.

First produced in 1950, the vehicle oozes of pure retro vibes, once being a symbol of American counterculture in the 1960s and 1970s. And to those who once dreamed of owning one but never did, the year 2022 might be your chance to do so.

In 2017, Volkswagen revealed a new and revamped version of the iconic microbus – the I.D. Buzz – announcing that it will begin production and be available in the market by 2022.

The I.D. Buzz is a more eco-friendly version of the classic as it is designed to be fully electric. Like many modern vehicles, it is equipped with touchscreen controls instead of buttons or knobs.

The I.D. Buzz has 369 horsepower and its battery will provide approximately 300 miles of range per charge. From a 30-minute charge, it will be able to reach 80% of its battery capacity. The driver will also be able to open the car with the use of his phone instead of the traditional key.

The interior provides plenty of space, as well as seats that can be rotated and moved on the tracks in the car’s floor.

The I.D. Buzz will be the ideal car for multi-day road trips as it has enough room to hold supplies, with trunk space in both of its front and back ends.

Passengers will also be able to set up the inside of the vehicle so they can have room to sleep in it comfortably. The car’s top speed is at 99mph and goes from 0-60 mph in 5 seconds.

Scott Keogh, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, says that the I.D. Buzz and this campaign is for everyone.

“This campaign is for all those we disappointed, and all of those who stayed with us, those who worked like crazy to keep us moving forward and for all of those who stopped caring. We have a responsibility to do better, to be greater and we intend to shoulder that responsibility,” he said.

Owning up to your mistakes is one of the hardest things to do, but Volkswagen handled it like a true champ.
