A toddler has been turned into a ‘Golden Girl’ with an 80s hairdo that’s giving people major nostalgia

There’s an undeniable charm in witnessing a little girl wearing a classic 80s hairdo.

As she twirls and giggles, her innocent enthusiasm becomes a nostalgic homage to a bygone era.

The signature styles of the 80s, with their voluminous curls, playful ponytails, and vibrant scrunchies, seem to come alive in this miniature fashionista.

Meet TikTok’s newest internet darling, Evelyn Mae, a one-year-old with an enviable bouffant hairdo.

The credit for her impeccable ‘Golden Girls‘ hairdo goes to her mom, Autumn Mathas, and grandmother, Trina King, who are both seasoned hairstylists.

It marked a significant milestone for little Evelyn Mae as she underwent her first-ever haircut, and with Autumn and Trina at the helm, she was in expert hands.

Inside the salon, King, at 52, found herself reminiscing about her beauty school days, particularly recalling the art of creating “wet set” hairstyles.

This hairdo technique involves the application of gel, the meticulous wrapping of hair in small rollers, and a stint under a dryer.

“It’s when you put gel in the hair and wrap it in small rollers and (set it) under a dryer,” King tells TODAY.com. “When it’s done, you tease it and smooth it out.”

With Autumn’s approval, King decided to try this classic method on Evelyn Mae, and to her delight, the outcome was nothing short of fantastic.

“It was like riding a bike,” she says.

King, thoroughly impressed with her granddaughter’s newfound hairdo, couldn’t resist sharing a video on TikTok.

Little did she know that this would be the beginning of a viral sensation, with subsequent posts raking in millions of views.

Amusingly, the comment section was filled with playful claims from viewers, attributing various roles to Evelyn Mae, ranging from a Mary Kay salesperson to a Jazzercise instructor and even a three-term chairwoman of the local Board of Realtors.

The unexpected fame has left King pleasantly surprised.

She notes that the success of the videos largely depends on Evelyn Mae’s mood, ensuring she is in good spirits, well-fed, and has had a nap.

King expresses gratitude to YouTuber Ms. Rachel, whom she considers a “savior,” for helping Evelyn Mae sit through the 20-minute styling treatment.

In Evelyn Mae’s videos, viewers witness a toddler navigating the world with style, from leisurely sidewalk strolls to driving a toy car.

Dressed in a purple sparkly top and armed with a purse carrying Werther’s Original and Strawberry Bon Bon candies, Evelyn Mae also makes a landline call, serves pretend baked goods, and even delivers birthday cards complete with some play cash inside.

Don’t forget her favorite perfume – Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds.

The impact of Evelyn Mae’s hairdo videos extends beyond mere entertainment.

King has received heartfelt messages from viewers, sharing how Evelyn Mae’s antics bring joy and comfort, particularly to those who have lost their grandparents or parents.

“One woman wrote me a private message that brought me to tears,” says King. “She was struggling with her mom’s death and … (after) she asked her mother for a sign … she opened TikTok and saw (Evelyn Mae’s) Werther Originals, her mother’s favorite candy.”

Evelyn Mae’s next venture is anticipated to be a trip to the local grocery store, promising more delightful content for her growing fanbase.

King remains optimistic about the future, describing this unexpected journey as a “fun ride” with numerous creative ideas waiting to be explored.

Reviving the past isn’t just a journey down memory lane; it’s a delightful expedition into a cherished treasure trove of moments that transcend time.

It’s akin to unlocking a forgotten storybook, brimming with tales of laughter, adventures, and a sense of pure and uncomplicated happiness.
