She had to convince her husband to embrace tiny home living and the horses, and now he loves them

For Bonnie, a devoted horse lover from Ravensdale, Washington, the phrase tiny home for horse lovers isn’t just a dream—it’s her everyday life.

Her 34-foot-long tiny house on wheels sits steps away from the pasture where her three horses graze, offering her a view from the comfort of her downstairs bedroom.

It’s a setup that gives her peace, joy, and a deep connection to the animals she loves most.

A passion, and a hesitant partner

Bonnie has loved horses since childhood, recalling summers spent riding in Baguio City in the Philippines.

That bond faded as she grew older—but it reignited during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She met her current trainer, Adena Johnson, who introduced her to a new approach focused on care and presence rather than just riding.

“They give me more than anything,” Bonnie says.

But bringing that dream to life came with hurdles.

Bonnie’s vision of a tiny house next to horses initially seemed out of reach.

Her husband, a careful planner and engineer, wasn’t sold on the idea.

“I broached the idea to my husband and he was against it,” she admits.

But she stayed patient. After touring a model at Seattle Tiny Homes, things slowly changed.

“He loves me, maybe… maybe he got tired,” she laughs. “But he’s loving this home too.”

Building a tiny home for horse lovers—and a life around her “boys”

Once her trainer bought a 13-acre property with room for boarders, Bonnie saw her chance.

She ordered the home from Seattle Tiny Homes, paid in cash, and had it delivered in October of last year.

“The reason why I got this tiny home is mainly because I wanted to be closer to my boys,” she explains. Her “boys” include Bodhi (nicknamed Bod Senior), Prince (her “baby”), and Lucky, her husband’s horse.

Though the couple lives there only part-time, Bonnie says the change has helped her focus on what matters.

“This tiny home really gives me that opportunity,” Bonnie says. “It’s my home. It really is my home.”

Finding peace through tiny home living

Since moving in, Bonnie has found a deeper purpose. Her old habits, like shopping for designer clothes, no longer appeal to her.

“That’s not important anymore,” she says. “This is—I have to contribute to the horses, so no more shopping.”

Her income now goes toward boarding fees and horse care. “My pay goes directly to boarding them.”

Being with her horses daily has also improved her mood and overall well-being.

“I never had any bad mood when I came. I always would come here just in awe and grateful,” she shares.

Grooming and simply being near them have become central to her life. “I sing to them. I read to them. It’s really a relationship.”

Size and layout fit for connection

Bonnie’s tiny home for horse lovers measures 8.5 feet wide and 34 feet long—just under 300 square feet.

“The size was just right,” she says. “The other ones were too big, the other models were too tiny.”

Inside, every inch is thoughtfully planned.

A loft to the left serves as a guest area. At the back, another loft is mainly for storage.

The primary bedroom, on the main floor, offers comfort and a view.

“It’s such a gift when I’m able to look out and see my horses just as I open my eyes,” she says.

Custom features that make it home

When designing the house with Seattle Tiny Homes, Bonnie picked every detail—from the cabinets and flooring to the fixtures.

“We were able to pick all the furnishings,” she says.

Storage was a pleasant surprise.

“There’s so much space… I was pleasantly surprised at how much you can store.”

A cozy living room with a personal touch

The living area reflects Bonnie’s personality.

One standout piece is a hand-painted couch, once used by her children in college.

Her artist friend Cheyenne Hawkins painted it to match the home’s cozy, rustic charm.

“It just fits perfectly,” Bonnie says. “This is my favorite spot… I can see Baby over there; I can see Bodhi and the other horses. They look at me, and I look at them.”

Her favorite lamp—carried home from a trip to Turkey—adds color. “I love just an explosion of color. It makes my heart happy.”

Kitchen built for comfort and efficiency

Bonnie’s kitchen features a farmhouse sink, microwave, full stove, oven, and refrigerator.

A compact pantry and counter space allow for practical cooking.

While Bonnie isn’t a fan of cooking herself, her husband enjoys preparing meals.

“Everything is within reach,” she says.

A bathroom that feels like a spa

One of Bonnie’s favorite areas is the bathroom.

It feels spacious yet efficient, with a full tub, shower, and standard toilet.

She especially loves soaking after long days with her horses.

“After a long day hanging out with the horses and smelling like one, I can soak in my tub and enjoy.”

There’s also hidden storage behind the bathroom wall and a well-loved vanity.

“I hope you’re loving it the way I do,” Bonnie says.

Ground floor bedroom offers peace and functionality

The main-floor bedroom makes daily life easier and more peaceful.

“It was important for us to have a bedroom on the ground floor,” Bonnie explains.

The space includes generous storage and a peaceful ambiance.

“I sleep so well at night and I just love it.”

Why this tiny home for horse lovers feels like a real home

Though Bonnie and her husband don’t yet live full-time in their tiny house, they spend multiple nights a week there.

“All my horse things are here, and all my other life stuff is in the other house,” she explains.

For now, the setup gives her the best of both worlds.

While living in a full-time tiny home may come later, she says the experience has already changed her life.

“It’s my home. It really is my home.”

A hopeful closing: Living fully, with horses and heart

Bonnie’s journey is more than just downsizing—it’s about realigning her life with what matters most.

Living in a tiny house beside horses has given her daily joy, quiet fulfillment, and a stronger bond with her equine companions.

“They’re very honest,” she says. “They can read us. So we have to leave everything out the door. We have to be present for them all the time.”

With her tiny home for horse lovers, Bonnie has created a space where love, peace, and presence live side by side.
