A teen server at a Tennessee restaurant became an unlikely hero after finding an envelope filled with cash that had been left behind.
The envelope was mistakenly forgotten by a woman, who was understandably relieved and thankful when the teen returned it.
Eighteen-year-old Nate Affourtit served a family at O’Charley’s in Lebanon, Tennessee, when the unexpected happened, PEOPLE noted.

It wasn’t until they had left the restaurant that the woman realized she had accidentally left behind an envelope.
“That day, I wasn’t having the best day at work,” the woman, identified as Lola, said. “My mind was jumbled.”
Lola was overwhelmed with worry when she realized the envelope was missing.
She searched her home, car, and even the baby’s diaper bag, but it was nowhere to be found.
As a last resort, she called the restaurant, fearing the money was gone.

To her relief, Nate, who had taken care of her family earlier, answered the call and assured her the envelope had been found.
He explained that the envelope had been discovered near the booth where her family had dined.
The woman suspected it had fallen from her pocket. She was surprised that no one else had taken it before it was recovered.
The envelope was returned as it had been left—untouched and intact.
Lola was deeply moved by the honesty of the teen server, who had the chance to keep the money but chose to do the right thing instead.

The act of kindness meant a great deal to her family, as the money was significant to them.
Teen server Nate, who works five days a week to save for school and a new car, said returning the envelope was easy.
In an interview, he explained that doing the right thing simply felt like the natural thing to do.
“I didn’t think about stealing it,” he said. “I thought if you do something wrong, it will come [back] to you.”
Lola was deeply moved by the honesty and kindness of the teen server.
She felt reassured by his actions, believing today’s youth still have a strong sense of integrity.

Inspired by his gesture, she shared the story on social media to highlight how the envelope had been returned safely.
Her post quickly gained traction, and soon, friends began donating money to Nate to thank him and acknowledge his act of kindness, per ABC 17.
“I give thanks to my mom and my dad for teaching me right. They teach me to be a light in the dark these days,” said Nate.
In a different story, a teenager in Chula Vista, California, is praised for going above and beyond to return a lost purse to its rightful owner.

According to NBC News San Diego, Eliana Martin left her purse behind in a shopping cart at a Ralph’s supermarket parking lot. Realizing it was missing, she quickly began canceling her credit cards.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Adrian Rodriguez, a recent high school graduate, found the purse and located Eliana’s address from an ID inside.
Wasting no time, he drove to the address, which now belongs to Martin’s former roommate, Melina Marquez, to ensure the purse was returned.
When Adrian found Melina wasn’t home wasn’t home, he left the purse with a relative.
Later, Melina saw footage from her Ring camera and was surprised by how young Adrian appeared.

Touched by his kindness, she tracked him down and thanked him for his thoughtful gesture.
“I looked into the Ring camera, and I was like, ‘Oh my God. He’s such a young kid.’ I was like, ‘We need to find him and just give him a little piece of gratitude.'” Melina told the outlet.
Adrian’s honesty inspired Melina to show her gratitude by starting a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised nearly $5,000.
She explained that many people wanted to recognize his kindness, describing his actions as a reflection of the values instilled by his parents. She also expressed hope for the future, moved by the 17-year-old’s selflessness.
