‘Granny Pods’ now allow your aging parents to live in your backyard

According to statistics reports, over 39.5 million people in the United States are over the age of 65-years-old. And as the elderly age over time, their needs change as well.

Although there are some people over the age of 65-years-old who are still fit and healthy, most of the elderly already suffer from chronic pain and diseases. Thus, most elderly go to assisted living facilities to be taken care of.

There are families who can live together with their aging parents and tend to their needs.

And there are families who, considering the health condition of their parents and their work schedule, cannot live together with their parents for fear of not being able to constantly watch over them.

Some send their parents to assisted living facilities or nursing institutions so that a health care provider can watch and assist them all the time.

But what if a family cannot send their parents in a nursing home as well? What other alternatives do they have?

Thanks to the innovative invention of Blacksburg, VA company, we now have the so-called ‘Granny Pod’ or MEDCottage, specifically made to cater to the needs of the elderly.

Basically, the Granny Pod looks like a tiny home geared with medical equipment that monitors the health of the elderly.

This portable mini hospital room is best installed in the backyard of your home, this way you can monitor and check your parents from time to time without compromising their privacy!

A Granny Pod costs between $85,000 to $125,000. At first glance it really is expensive, but if you would think of it as an investment, then it is really worth the money!

The Granny Pod looks like a simple but cozy bungalow from the outside but it is really a state-of-the-art health facility on the inside.

Each Granny Pod is built with top-of-the-line safety features for the elderly such as hand railings, defibrillators, first aid supplies, and lighter floorboards!

You don’t have to worry about spending additional money in order to open a new sewer, water source, and power lines for the Granny Pod.

Upon the installation of the mini-facility on your backyard, it will be hooked up to existing sewer, water source, and power lines – making it truly convenient!

The basic Granny Pod is 12 by 14 feet in measurement. Each unit contains a virtual companion that would remind your parents about their medications.

At the same time, this virtual companion can also play music, movies, and even entertain your parents with games to keep them happy!

Aside from this feature, each unit also features double French doors to make room for wheelchair-bound elderly.

Just like a regular kitchen, the Granny Pod also has a small refrigerator, a microwave, and a dish washer and dryer.

On top of this, it also has a timed medication dispenser so that your parents won’t forget to take their daily medicines.

The bathroom is smartly made for your parents’ needs. It features a toilet that can measure your parent’s weight, body temperature, and the amount of your urine!

This way, the elderly can give precise information about themselves without sacrificing their privacy.

Ideally, the bedroom is made to accommodate only one person, but it can be expanded if two of your parents would live inside of it. For a visiting caregiver, you may add an additional bed!

Aside from this superb and sleek interior, the Granny Pod also has: an installed CCTV to monitor the elderly from time to time, a pressurized ventilation that keeps out airborne pathogens, a built-in lift to move the patient with, and additional listings focused at knee height!

With all of these smart, advanced, and convenient features and if your parents do not need 24hr medical assistance this is a good replacement for assisted living facilities, the Granny Pod may be the new holy grail of the aging population!
