A wise person once said, of how there was only one happiness in life… to love and to be loved. True to the saying, the video below will prove how blessed Howard and Laura are for conquering the kind of love we are all hoping for. And though the video below would certainly bring tears in your eyes, you heart will surely be warmed by the last chapter of their love story.
Howard and Laura are committed to stay married to each other… ’till death do us part’. They kept that promise for 73 years. Their love had endured challenges that strengthened their bond and cemented their affection for each other. The kind of love they found on each other’s arms is truly inspiring, as despite their old age, they are still very humorous and affectionate to each other.
Sadly, the 93-year old Laura is lying in her hospital bed, suffering from dementia and is on the brink of her death. But undeterred by Laura’s deteriorating health, Howard chose to remain by her side, continuously professing his unwavering love for her.
“I am your sweet heart, I always am your sweet heart. I was your best lover [among] all the lovers you had, I was the best.” Howard playfully reminded his wife, to which Laura replied with “Oh! I know it!” And Howard’s laughter echoed in the room.
Fighting the tears threatening to fall, Howard wiped his eyes. Laura looked him in the eye and told him again and again “I love you.” To which Howard replied with an “I love you too my!”
Being a devoted husband, Howard did not waste the last time he get to spend with his dying wife. For the last time, Howard serenaded Laura with their favorite love song. The song entitled, You’ll never know, has always been their song for each other, even in times when Howard was away, fighting in world war II.
“At family gatherings, it was not uncommon for the two of them to sing this song together, each taking a verse and serenading the other. In fact, after fifty years of marriage, they renewed their vows and performed this song as a duet for the entire family at the reception.” Howard’s grand-daughter, Erin Solari of New Orleans shared how much the song means to the old couple.
Howard sang to his wife with his eyes locked into hers, and his hands stroking her… cherishing their numbered moment. Laura, on the other hand, was trying her best to sing back to her husband, mouthing the lyrics of the song that has comforted her a number of times before.
Howard’s grand-daughter, Erin recorded the special moment between Howard and Laura in a videotape in hopes of keeping a long-lasting memory of their love.
“We knew that this was probably the last time, so we wanted to capture that moment,” Solari explained in an interview. “It was really loving.”
Howard and Laura’s truly admirable profession and gesture of love for each other was posted online by Solari. Soon after, the video has garnered more than 3.7 million of views and was shared countless of times. Tugging and melting the hearts of millions of viewers.
“For me, right after the video, I was so overcome… I broke down and started crying. I was so happy that I’d captured this moment for my family. It touched me, so it doesn’t surprise me that it touched other people as well.” Solari admitted how much the love her grandparents have for each other warmed her heart.
According to Solari, the outpour of love demonstrated by her grandparents lifted everyone’s spirit, and that includes Laura’s as well! In fact, when Laura found out that their video became viral, she jokingly said… “I told you Howard that I’d make you famous.”
