This Ukrainian woman recently reunited with her lost dog through the help of social media and the power of human compassion.
In June of this year, an animal shelter in Ukraine rescued an abandoned dog from the streets. The poor dog was thin, weak, and his coat was full of mange. It was apparent that living in the streets took a heavy toll on his appearance and health.
The shelter provided the lost dog with an abundance of food and medicine to nurse him back to health. Then, they began searching for the right family who would take care of him.
They shared a photo of him on their Facebook page, but they didn’t hope for too much – the dog was in rough shape, and they assumed it would be a challenge to get people interested in him. But to their surprise, the exact opposite happened – many people felt for the dog’s sad blue eyes, and his photo got shared hundreds of times within hours of posting!
Two days after, the shelter got an unexpected message from a woman claiming that the dog looked like her missing pet. Back in 2017, she said that her dog, Lord, had been stolen from her yard. She missed her best friend terribly and wanted him back more than anything.
“She’d been looking for her dog for two years,” Galina Lekunova, one of the shelter workers, told The Dodo.
The very next day, the woman visited the shelter to confirm if her suspicions were right. The woman approached the dog carefully and petted his head. At first, it seemed like the pup didn’t recognize her, but after a few sniffs, his tail started wagging and he jumped up to hug his owner. The woman immediately started crying – it was indeed Lord!
It was an extremely heartfelt reunion, and the shelter got it all on video. They shared the touching clip on their Facebook page:
“Fantastic Monday! Tears of joy in the morning!” the shelter wrote. “All this time, the owners were looking for him, posted photos in groups. And here it is – a miracle. Thanks to your repost the dog was seen by a family friend living in Australia as well!!! I called the owners and they rushed for their treasure!”
The shelter also thanked everyone who shared the post – this long-awaited reunion wouldn’t have been possible without them.
“We thank everyone who shared our post. Thanks to you that the dog’s life was saved, and peace returned to his owner’s soul!” the shelter wrote.

This lost dog has been found, and with that, the missing piece in his owner’s heart has been returned.
