Couple adopts 5-year-old son’s biological sister after his birth mom gets pregnant again

Joseph and Shanna Weight had been married for nine years before they decided to add another member to their family, and the chose to do it through adoption.

They adopted their first child, Milo, in August 2013 five years ago. The little boy’s birth mom became pregnant again, and all she wanted was for the couple to be the child’s parents.

The pair from Elk Ridge, Utah was able to adopt Milo through the A Act of Love Adoptions agency. His biological mom was only 18 at the time he was born, and she was in no position to become a parent.

“She was a young mom and she had grown up with a lot of siblings from a lot of different fathers,” Joseph told Good Morning America. “She never knew her dad so she wanted her child to have something better than what she had.”

Milo is now 5 years old and according to Shanna, he has been nothing but a great son to them.

“Milo, he was kind of the perfect first child. He was our entire world. I can’t explain what he’s done for our lives,” she said.

The boy was such a good son, that he was able to inspire Shanna and Joseph to conceive a child of their own. Two years later, their biological baby Nash was born. The husband and wife thought that their family was finally complete.

That is until one day, when Joseph received a call that would change their lives forever.

Nash was only 20 months old when the adoption agency called to tell him that Milo’s birth mom was pregnant again, and that she chose them to be the adoptive parents of the baby.

“My first thought was, ‘There’s no way we can do this. We’re not ready,'” Shanna recalled. “After the initial shock wore off I thought, ‘It would be so nice to have them raised together.'”

The couple thought it through and slept on it for a weekend, but there was one member of the family who has already made up his mind – Milo.

“I [told Milo], ‘Your birth mom is pregnant’ and he started jumping up and down,” Joseph said. “He pointed his finger right in my face and said, ‘We’re bringing home that baby.'”

After a lot more thought and prayer, the couple decided that they would welcome the baby into their lives. Onni Pearl was born on February 25 and Joseph and Shanna took her home two days after.

“I felt very grateful that she would give us the opportunity to also parent one of [Milo’s] siblings. I think how courageous [their birth mom] was to recognize that they needed something more than she could give them. She was very selfless in what she did,” Shanna said.

As for Milo, he couldn’t be any happier to be with his little sister.

“She has a dimple just like Milo. He loves to talk to her and make her smile. She’s a smiler,” Joseph said.

What a beautiful family! For sure, the Weight household is always full of life and love with such great parents and loving children in it. Watch their video below:

I love this! I know a lot of people feel as though mixed races is not a good thing for the children, but I see this as an opportunity. The children look healthy and happy. They have parents who will love them and allow them to thrive and live a good life. I claim that for them. God bless them for not being selfish!
