The natural wedding look is becoming increasingly popular as more brides skip makeup on their big day.
While the trend has been around for a while, itโs now gaining more attention, especially with millennials and Gen Z shaping beauty standards.
For many brides, every detail of the wedding day is essential, from the dress to the playlist.
But what happens when a bride decides to go makeup-free?
It was the perfect choice for 25-year-old Calynn Chapman from Nashville, Tennessee.

She shared a TikTok video just eight minutes before walking down the aisle, showing herself in her white gown, veil, and curled hair without any makeup.
The video quickly went viral, gaining 33 million views. In her caption, Calynn shared that she felt “the most beautiful” embracing her natural look.
“I wanted to look and feel my best,” she told Newsweek, adding: “My best was the was just being natural in the way that God made me.”
In a follow-up video, Calynn explained why she chose makeup-free on her wedding day.
She shared that she grew up in a church where makeup was prohibited and never learned to wear it.

Despite her choice, not everyone has supported it. After reading the criticism in the comments, Calynn clarified that many had misunderstood her intentions to go for a natural wedding look by totally letting go of makeup.
She emphasized that she was not trying to criticize those who wear makeup or suggest she was better for skipping it.
In fact, she admires bridal makeup and wanted to share her personal experience.
Meanwhile, Calynnโs mother and bridesmaids fully supported her decision to go makeup-free on her wedding day.
Since they knew she had never worn makeup, they werenโt surprised and offered encouragement without hesitation.

On her wedding day, Calynn stuck to her regular skincare routine, using only face wash, moisturizer, and clear lip gloss.
Confidently stepping into her dress, she walked down the aisle with her natural wedding look.
Reflecting on the moment, she felt that if she could go makeup-free for her wedding, she could do so for anything.
Before the wedding, Calynn noticed many bridal makeup tutorials on TikTok but hadnโt seen any brides skip makeup entirely.
Inspired by her choice, she shared her experience online, never expecting it to go viral.

Calynnโs TikTok video quickly gained over 40,000 comments, with many supporting her decision to go makeup-free on her wedding day, though others criticized it. Some viewers expressed concerns she might regret her choice.
Calynn admitted she was initially overwhelmed by the criticism, especially after receiving her first negative comment.
Despite considering deleting the video, she was encouraged by the support from hundreds of strangers who defended her.
Since sharing her experience, Calynn has heard from girls inspired by her confidence to go makeup-free for their weddings or proms.
She believes girls should feel confident in their natural beauty, especially on significant days.
โThere is absolutely nothing wrong with makeup and wanting to enhance features. But it should not be required for anyone, regardless of the event,โ she explained.

According to a 2023 YouGov poll, 38 percent of women in the U.S. wear makeup several times a week or daily, while only 26 percent never wear it.
Calynn acknowledged that she did consider wearing makeup for her wedding but ultimately decided against it after factoring in the costs.
The Knot, a popular wedding website, shows that the average cost of bridal hair and makeup is $290. Still, additional expenses can quickly increase the total.
These extra costs include trials, airbrush makeup, elaborate styles, false lashes, and wedding nails, ranging from $10 to $350. Additional artists and gratuities are also added to the bill.
Given these costs, Calynnโs choice to skip makeup on her wedding day is understandable, as it would have been a significant financial expense.
“I didn’t want to spend that money and potentially not like it,” she said in the video. “I decided I was going to go natural. My husband is used to seeing me that way.”

@calynndavis This was something I went back & forth on during the entire engagement. I never wear makeup, but it was my wedding! But at the end of the day, I decided against it & I felt the most beautiful I ever have just being naturally me.
