“Output should always trump hours,” he concluded.
In an interview with Upworthy, Rob discussed why some managers hesitate to treat employees like adults.
He explained that a lack of trust, often from past experiences, drives bosses to micromanage.

While some believe this ensures productivity, Rob pointed out that constant monitoring harms trust and morale.
This builds a toxic work environment where employees feel stressed and undervalued, leading to lower performance and higher turnover.
Instead of promoting accountability and growth, this approach fosters fear and resentment.
Rob also believes technology has played a major role in the increasing demand for better work-life balance.
He explained that mobile technology blurred the lines between work and personal life, making it tough to disconnect.
As a millennial leader, he prioritizes work-life harmony, striving to provide his team flexibility and a sense of purpose in their roles.
He also shared helpful advice for employees to gain their employers’ trust.

He encouraged employees to deliver quality work and strive to meet or exceed expectations. Open communication is important, so employees should keep their managers updated on their progress, challenges, and successes.
He added that by going beyond basic requirements, they can show their eagerness to contribute and act with integrity by being honest and ethical, which is also essential.
Moreover, employees should seek feedback and make improvements to demonstrate their commitment to growth.
Lastly, Rob emphasized building positive relationships with colleagues, as strong connections are crucial for fostering genuine trust.
