Homeowner shares downsizing journey and benefits of living in a women-only tiny home community

In a women-only tiny house community in Texas, Dianna has settled into her new home after a life-changing move.

A simple online search led her to sell her Washington home and relocate south.

Now, she enjoys a cozy space with a spacious porch, a ground-floor bedroom, a roomy bathroom, and plenty of storage for her quilting supplies.

Finding a new beginning in a women-only tiny home community

Dianna’s journey to a women-only tiny house community began with a desire for a simpler life.

For two years before retirement, she explored tiny home living as an alternative to her traditional suburban lifestyle.

“Before I went tiny, I lived in a double-wide mobile home that was approximately 1,300 square feet,” she explains.

Wanting to downsize, she searched for the right fit and found Decathlon Tiny Homes, where she discovered a design that met her needs.

“The reason I decided on this particular home, I wanted to live on one level. It’s airy, and I don’t feel enclosed even though it’s so tiny,” she says.

Beyond a well-designed space, she longed for a sense of community and a slower pace away from city lifeโ€”something this women-only tiny house community offered.

Dianna’s tiny home measures 8.5 feet by 28 feet, totaling about 238 square feet.

She purchased it, including all upgrades, for approximately $97,000, paying in cash after selling her previous home.

“I wanted a community, I wanted to get away from the big city life, and I wanted to come here to a spot where I felt like I belonged,” she says.

A standout feature of her home is the large front porch, which she plans to use for sewing in the warmer months.

In the evenings, solar lights add a cozy ambiance. The exterior includes new skirting for a more permanent look and storage space underneath.

The home has electrical and water hookups, leveling jacks, and secure strapping to withstand Texas weather.

Interior design and functionality

Inside, Dianna focused on making the most of her compact space.

To save room, the kitchen features quartz countertops, a microwave convection oven, and a small coffee maker.

“There’s not a whole lot of space in our tiny home, so we try really hard to decide what’s important to us,” she says.

Clever storage solutions include deep drawers, a combined linen closet and pantry, and built-in spice racks.

The bathroom is designed for efficiency, with a combination washer/dryer, a 30-gallon hot water heater, and quartz countertops.

To accommodate her dog, she added doors specifically for bath time. A small medicine cabinet and jewelry display provide extra storage.

Personal touches and hobbies

Quilting is a big part of Dianna’s life; her home reflects that.

The ground-floor bedroom includes a queen-sized platform bed with built-in storage drawers, while her closet holds quilting supplies.

She has a dedicated sewing space in the living area. “This is my sewing machine. It’s very relaxing. It’s a lot smaller than what I’m used to,” she says.

The living room features a large, movable TV to keep the space flexible. A loft provides additional storage, though she is still organizing it.

Above all, she enjoys a strong sense of connection in the women-only tiny house community.

“Life is short, and you have to enjoy it, and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it,” she says.
