Who would have thought that something as beautiful and as detailed as Game of Thrones symbols can be carved into the fragile tip of a pencil? Amazingly, Russian artist Salavat Fidai had this in mind and actually put it into superb, unfathomable work.
Salavat Fida is an experimental artist and a sculptor who has fast grown his art portfolio. What made Fidai even more popular is his recent work where he carved Game of Thrones’ symbols on pencil tips. Because of the success of the show and the impact it left the audience, it is not surprising that Game of Thrones has inspired a lot of artists in their creations. However, Fidai’s work definitely stands out among other Game-of-Thrones-inspired artworks.
One will find it hard to imagine how much care and patience Fidai had to put into such magnificent creations considering how easy pencil tips can break. This only shows that artists are not only full of creativity but are also very determined and patient. In his sculptures, Fidai proved that great attention to detail is key to creating flawless, remarkable mini sculptures.
With a steady hand, chockfull of patience and exceptional carving skills, Fadai has created nearly all Game of Thrones symbols including Targaryen, Lannister and House of Stark emblems. He even carved some of the characters in astonishing detail such as Tyrion Lannister, Arya Stark and Ghost.
According to Fidai, each Game of Thrones sculpture took him between six and 12 hours to complete. “I love experimenting in various art form,” the artist said. “I like miniatures because of the complexity. I carve out the micro sculptures from the lead of a pencil because it is very difficult and it is a unique art form. It is a challenge for me: ‘Will I be able to make micro sculpture and not break the fragile graphite?’”
This level of patience led Fidai to more intricate carvings that have gained attention from art lovers on Etsy and above 116,000 Instagram followers. Apart from his Game of Thrones masterpieces, Fidai has done a lot of wonderful mini sculptures such as the Eiffel Tower, Black Panther, The Willis Tower and The Leaning Tower of Pisa. He is also into creating miniature paintings on grains of rice, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and matchboxes.
