8 senior women in their golden years are headed to Poland to watch Taylor Swift’s concert

Eight women in their senior years, residing in The Villages retirement community in Florida, are set to attend Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert in Warsaw, Poland.

The women ages 64 to 75, hatched a plan for their dream trip during weekly gatherings in their singles community, according to “Good Morning America.”

Barbara O’Hare, Donna Brownell, Vicki Dinou, Elaine Helstrom, Margaret Barton, Lisa Kaplan, Lyn MacGuire, and Dorice Kreinbring dreamed up the adventure over “Martini Mondays.”

Margaret, 75, told her friends she had a blast seeing Taylor Swift in concert with her daughter and granddaughter in Detroit, Michigan, last June.

“The enormity of it just blew me away. Everybody’s dressed…everybody’s so nice, everybody’s changing bracelets,” Margaret said, adding that it moved her deeply to see how much Swift can create for the whole world.

Margaret wanted her friends to experience the magic of the concert, too, so she volunteered to find the best and most affordable tickets.

Vicki initially dismissed the idea as a martini-fueled fantasy. However, 30 minutes later, Margaret called with exciting news: she had secured fantastic tickets, and the group was headed to Warsaw, Poland.

The group will jet off to Poland on July 29, with the Swift concert slated for August 1.

The group’s Polish adventure wraps up on August 7, allowing time for sightseeing, vodka tasting, and culinary lessons.

Margaret told her friends she would cover all trip expenses.

Elaine was moved to tears, saying it was the most generous and unselfish act of kindness she had ever experienced.

Since booking their February trip, the group has transformed “Martini Mondays” into “Taylor Tuesdays.”

They’ve even crafted shirts featuring their faces with the Eras Tour logo. They will wear friendship bracelets and pink “Swiftie” water bottles to the concert.

Margaret also revealed that they’d acquired a professional songbook to master Swift’s discography, including their favorite songs “Anti-Hero,” “Karma,” “Shake It Off,” and “The Man.”

“I think it’s going to be very inspiring,” Margaret said. “I’m very excited to share this with everybody. I think it means more to me than it does to them.”

The group is thrilled about the Eras Tour concert and believes this trip will create unforgettable memories, even though they’ve shared many adventures together before.

“We were all very close friends to start out with and this has brought us even closer like a sisterhood,” Lyn said.

Why does Taylor Swift have many fans in their senior years?

Taylor Swift’s biggest fans are older than you might think. A 2023 survey found that nearly half of her U.S. followers are over 45, according to ABC.

The breakdown includes 45% millennials, 21% Gen Xers, and 25% Boomers.

Middle-aged fans, or “Swifties,” aren’t shy about their love for the pop star. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, 72, quotes Swift’s lyrics in speeches and legal arguments and displays her albums in his office.

Actress Julia Roberts, 56, is another high-profile fan who took her children to Swift’s 1989 tour in 2015.

Even older fans, dubbed “Silver Swifties,” have been spotted dancing to her music in retirement homes.

Fans in their senior years see Taylor Swift as a throwback to classic singer-songwriters, according to 52-year-old economist Greg Jericho.

They love her live performances and guitar skills, which remind them of their favorite musicians growing up. But it’s not just nostalgia; many enjoy her upbeat, catchy songs.

Leigh McCluskie, in her 50s, says Swift’s music keeps her young, and she loves dancing to it in the kitchen.

McCluskie also points out that older women find Taylor Swift’s fan community more accepting and less judgmental than others.

She appreciates the community’s inclusivity, noting that no one is judged for age.

McCluskie credits Swift’s positive behavior and uplifting messages for fostering this welcoming environment.
