She regrets not getting a 2nd opinion when her teeth were pulled at 20; this is her journey to a new smile!

Cheyenne Chalai shared her journey of getting new teeth through dental implants, something she desired since her dentist recommended extracting all her teeth in her twenties.

The internet star told her followers that she decided to remove her teeth 11 years ago.

Cheyenne explained to her nearly 640,000 followers on social media that when she was 20, her dentist recommended removing all her teeth due to decay caused by wearing braces.

However, she had to get dentures because she couldn’t afford the dental work needed.

“I was too young at the time and thought my dentist knew best, so I trusted him and let him pull all of my teeth out,” she said.

Now, at 31, her dentist said her jawbone looks like that of an 80-year-old due to significant bone loss.

Within three months, her dentures barely fit, causing pain while eating, talking, or wearing them.

According to the Texas Implant and Dental Center, removing teeth means the jawbone doesn’t get enough stimulation, leading to bone weakening over time.

Dentures become less stable due to bone loss. Dental implants, on the other hand, can last a long time and promote bone growth.

Meanwhile, implants can last years and promote bone growth, but they’re pricey.

Cheyenne had to pay $33,000 for her new teeth to avoid discomfort.

Luckily, Cheyenne received help from many online users through a fundraiser she started at 31.

She aimed to raise enough money for dental implants, suggesting that she could afford the procedure if 1,600 people donated $20 each.

“I’m so ready to be comfortable with my smile and be able to eat, talk, laugh and LIVE comfortably,” Cheyenne said.

On February 26, she posted a video showing her smile transformation from before to after getting her final set of teeth.

She thanked the dental implants clinic for ensuring she was happy with her new teeth.

However, some people wonder if they can still get dental implants with severe bone loss, as implants need strong bones to function well.

It’s possible, but there are additional steps involved, according to Boston Dental Group.

The approach to getting new teeth through dental implants for severe bone loss depends on the type of bone loss and where the implants will be located.

Options include bone grafts or zygomatic dental implants.

Understanding how dental implants work is essential to comprehend why bone loss impacts their suitability.

Unlike bridges and dentures, implants attach directly to the jawbone via a screw, with false teeth covering it to mimic natural teeth.

Bone loss happens when teeth are missing because the jawbone loses strength without the regular pressure from teeth.

This can be exacerbated by conditions like periodontal disease and decay.

Solutions like zygomatic implants or bone grafts may be necessary if the bone isn’t sturdy enough for implants.

Zygomatic dental implants provide a simpler solution for severe bone loss than bone grafts.

Unlike standard implants in the upper or lower jawbone, zygomatic implants use the cheekbone, which is less affected by bone loss.

This allows dental implants even with significant bone loss around the teeth.

Zygomatic implants typically heal faster and involve a simpler process than bone grafts.

However, they are only suitable for the upper jaw.

If zygomatic dental implants aren’t suitable, a bone graft can restore the jawbone, enabling dental implants.

Though more complex, bone graft effectively improves dental and jawbone health, enhancing facial shape and comfort while preventing further damage.

During the procedure, healthy bone from elsewhere in the body is transplanted to the damaged area, where it integrates over time.

This process takes around a month for stabilization before dental implant placement, followed by additional healing time.

Severe bone loss doesn’t necessarily prevent dental implants; options like bone grafts or zygomatic implants exist, typically simpler for upper teeth.

Consultation with a dentist can help determine the best option for addressing bone loss and considering dental implants.
