Bernhard Lloyd still remembers the impact. “This has to be the most perfect song in the world,” he said.

Gold explained, “It’s like a matrix, and people, they put their own things into this matrix, and then they they they get pictures out of it from their own ideas. And it’s just a matrix that creates the pictures. And that’s how I—I mean, I really—it’s very hard to understand. A song like this is very, very strange. It has a life on its own.”
Marian Gold’s vocal performance demanded precision. Every small nuance of intonation had to be exact, and even a single word, like the choice between the American “dance” or British “dance,” had to be carefully sung.
Lloyd remembered, “The line was perfect in tune, but he was singing ‘dance.’”

Unlike typical trends focused on dances or challenges, this TikTok trend emphasizes emotion, often using the song as a soundtrack for heartfelt videos and nostalgic reflections.
Millions of users now share personal memories, milestone moments, and family clips, cementing its role as a defining piece of modern nostalgia music.
TikTok creator Kristen Morgan, who has more than 500,000 followers, used the song to capture her 13-year-old daughter meeting a boy from her football team for the first time.
The video overlay read, “That nervous feeling when he’s about to meet your dad for the first time.”
Morgan captioned it, “If only they could stay forever young… DONT BLINK.”
Morgan explained to TODAY.com why Alphaville’s “Forever Young” perfectly matched the moment.
“Now that I’m growing older, to be able to watch my kids being involved and doing things that I did as a student… she’s growing and becoming a lady, (and) that song just matched the moment,” she said.
The clip highlighted both joy and the bittersweet passage of time.
Morgan reflected further, sharing that watching her daughter reenact a moment from her own youth stirred strong emotions, particularly remembering a high school friend who had recently passed away.
She added, “I don’t feel like anybody wants to grow up and grow old.”
