The outside looks like an ordinary school bus, but the stunning interior will leave you in awe!

Shane and Elizabeth, who travel extensively for work, found that creating a tiny home on wheels was ideal for their nomadic lifestyle.

Their converted school bus highlights the smart design choices that made it a functional and comfortable home.

They have made the most of the space through thoughtful planning and creative solutions, proving that a bus can be more than just a vehicleโ€”a fully livable home on wheels.

From event production to living in a tiny home on wheels

Before embracing life in a tiny home on wheels, Shane and Elizabeth worked in event production, traveling across the country to set up infrastructure.

Living in hotels quickly became exhausting, and they wanted a more personal and portable living space. “It’s kind of tiresome,” Shane said. “So we wanted to be able to bring everything with us, including the dogs.”

A school bus provided the perfect blank canvas, allowing them to design a home that met their needs.

Six months of hard work

Transforming the bus into a livable space was no small task.

“It took us six months to build this bus, seven days a week, almost 12 hours a day,” Shane recalled. “I did it like a full-time job, no days off, no nothing. We just went to town on it and got it done.”

Their motivation was clearโ€”they needed the bus ready for their wedding in Jackson Hole.

With a tight deadline, Shane worked tirelessly, and Elizabeth helped whenever she wasn’t working.

Their dedication paid off, resulting in a fully customized and functional tiny home on wheels.

Smart design and unique features

The couple’s tiny home on wheels includes several standout features. At the heart of their space is a large kitchen with an island that Elizabeth loves.

“We had to have a big kitchen, with an island which I love,” she said.

The kitchen connects to a side deck, creating additional living space. The decks were an essential part of their design, especially the drop-down deck, an idea Shane had seen online.

The open floor plan gives the bus a spacious studio apartment feel.

Unlike many tiny homes on wheels, their design includes a full-size bathroom with a composting toilet and a hidden laundry chute, adding convenience to their mobile lifestyle.

Built for the road

Named the B-Wagon, their tiny home on wheels is a converted school bus packed with impressive features.

It runs on a 5.9 24-valve Cummins diesel engine and an Allison MT 643 transmissionโ€”considered the “holy grail” for vehicles like this. The four rear tires are locked, providing strong traction on different terrains.

“We’ve been in deep snow, deep mud, deep sand, and we pretty much pull out of everything,” Shane said.

The bus has air-ride suspension on both the front and rear axles for a smooth ride. It gets 10 miles per gallon and has a 100-gallon fuel tank, giving it a range of 1,000 miles.

Initially, 31 feet, 6 inches longโ€”small enough to fit under most national park limitsโ€”the addition of a rear deck extended it to 35 feet.

It’s just under 8 feet wide and includes a 150-gallon fresh water tank, allowing them to stay off-grid for up to two and a half weeks.

They purchased the bus for around $7,000. They spent $50,000 to $55,000 on the entire conversion, transforming it into a fully functional tiny home on wheels.

Living the tiny home on wheels dream

Their tiny home on wheels perfectly fits their careers and adventurous spirit. Elizabeth works as a travel nurse, while Shane continues in event production.

“This lifestyle works great living in a school bus because I decided to be a travel nurse,” Elizabeth said.

“We get to see all the cool places, be off-grid, and Shane gets to do events anywhere around the country.”

For the couple, their school bus is more than just a vehicleโ€”it’s home.

“The school bus is where we’re meant to be,” Elizabeth said.

“I wouldn’t change absolutely anything. It makes me so happy being in a school bus, and I feel like anyone should build a school bus, because why not?”

Their journey is a testament to the freedom and flexibility that come with a tiny home on wheels, proving that with creativity and determination, home can be anywhere.
