Dejected bride walks into almost empty wedding venue but still makes it a special day

A couple’s dream wedding turned into a heartbreaking experience when just five out of 75 invited guests attended.

The bride, Kalina, took to TikTok to recount the emotional moment she opened the doors to a nearly empty venue.

The couple, hand in hand with their son, entered the decorated hall, trying to come to terms with the situation.

A small group of guests celebrated with them as a somber cover of Miley Cyrus’ “When I Look at You” played, reflecting their emotional struggle.

In the caption of her video, which has gained over seven million views, Kalina, from Oregon, wrote, “This is our entrance to our Masquerade ball.”

She also shared how she had spent ten months excitedly preparing for her masquerade ball-themed celebration, only to be disappointed.

“It just makes me think, like, why? What did we do? Am I that bad of a person? What did my husband ever do to deserve any of this? Why couldn’t we matter enough for people to show up?” she questioned in the caption.

She shared her disappointment, explaining that some friends had not reached out to congratulate her or explain missing the wedding, PEOPLE noted.

This lack of acknowledgment, she said, left her feeling hurt and confused as she tried to make sense of the situation.

The couple’s wedding day took an unexpected turn when no guests showed up by the time the ceremony was set to begin at 1 p.m.

After Kalina’s mother informed her that no one had arrived by 1:15, the couple decided to wait until 2 p.m.

However, only five people were present when they finally entered the venue, which was prepared for 40 confirmed guests.

Kalina described the moment she and her groom entered the venue, expecting a lively celebration, only to find an empty room.

Overcome with disappointment, she struggled to stay composed in the face of the silence and empty chairs.

Kalina and Shane got engaged on Christmas Day in 2019, just before the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to delay planning their dream wedding.

After being together for nine years, the couple was excited to announce their wedding date in January, eagerly anticipating their special day.

However, their celebration turned into a heartbreaking disappointment.

“All the wasted food and drinks. All the empty tables and chairs. Every moment of my reception changed to adapt,” Kalina continued.

Despite the disappointment of the no-show guests, Kalina was determined to enjoy her special day.

She shared that they made the most of the situation by posting videos of joyful dancing and focusing on the positive moments from the reception.

Kalina found comfort in the support of her small group, which helped her realize who truly stood by her side.

She expressed gratitude that some guests could witness the entrance she had always dreamed of.

During their first and only dance, she and Shane shared a reassuring moment, telling each other that, no matter the challenges, they had everything they needed and would face the world together.

Thousands of TikTok users supported Kalina, praising her appearance in her wedding dress and suggesting a redo of their wedding.

One comment, which gained over 16,500 likes, expressed strong support, saying, “NAH REDO THIS. WE ALL SHOWING UP.”

Another comment, garnered over 15,000 likes, suggested a dream wedding redo, with the user offering to attend and support Kalina.

A week after the wedding, Kalina posted a follow-up video, sharing that she and her husband were still processing their feelings, including embarrassment, anger, and grief.

She also mentioned, “I wouldn’t even wish this on my worst enemy.”

In a later post, Kalina revealed she had not received many explanations from the guests who missed the wedding.

She added that she and her husband have been focusing on reevaluating their lives and appreciating what they have.

@kalina_marie_23 This is our entrance to our Masqurade ball. The Masqurade ball that I have talked EXCESSIVELY about for the last 10 months. The same ball that I not only digitally invited over 75 people to. But ALSO spent money to send 25 beautiful invitations out to. FIVE PEOPLE SHOWED UP!!!!!!! Like, are you kidding me!?!? As you see in the video, we enter the venue. And no one is there. The invite said 1pm. My mom messaged me at 1:15 that no one was there. My husband and I finally showed up at 2oclock, to 5 people. In a venue planned for 40. I dreamed that I would walk in to a bunch of people cheering us on. Hooting and hollering for us in celebration……but all you see is a woman trying to hold herself together because she had NO idea how to deal with her venue being almost completely empty. All the wasted food and drinks. All the empty tables and chairs. Every moment of my reception changed to adapt. Did we still make the most of it?? You bet your SWEET @$$ we did. But did this video just take all the good moments and shoot them out of the water for a second, F$&K yea it did 😔 It just makes me think, like, why? What did we do? Am I that bad of a person? What did my husband ever do to deserve any of this? Why couldn’t we matter enough for people to show up? I still have “friends” that haven’t even messaged me to congratulate me or tell me why they didn’t come. It truly makes me sick. I honestly can’t wrap my head around this yet. But all I know is, I have my man. My baby. And family that shows up when I need them. And for that, I will be thankful ❤️ #FAIL #fyp #whereisthelove ♬ original sound – Sara Lones
