Kids who doodle in class are often scolded for not paying attention to the teacher. Most of us have probably done the same out of sheer boredom when we were still young. But this 9-year-old kid was different – while it may have been a mere pastime for bored students, this boy doodles primarily because of his love for art.
Is doodling an art? If you see Joe Whale’s creations, your answer would be an astounding yes!
Despite his young age, Joe is already an incredible artist. When his parents learned that he was getting in trouble in school for doodling in class, they didn’t punish him, instead, they chose to nurture his creative talent.
His dad, Greg, said: “Joe is a really talented little boy, he’s excelling at school, he’s a great footballer and cricketer, but drawing is definitely what he is most passionate about.”
His parents encouraged Joe to keep drawing and even enrolled him in an after-school art class called Bloom to hone his skills. There, his teacher was blown away by Joe’s amazing doodles. The kid possessed a talent rarely seen in children his age, and when his art teacher saw some of his work to assess his level, they moved him to an older class right away.
“His work is very exact and immaculate, it’s very balanced, he goes straight to ink and creates perfect work straight from the start, no practising beforehand,” his art teacher said of Joe’s drawings.
His teacher was so impressed that a few weeks into the class, she asked if she could post Joe’s doodles on her Instagram for everyone to see. A short while later, Joe’s parents got another call about a restaurant who noticed their son’s talent.
Number 4, a restaurant located in Shrewsbury, England, reached out to Joe’s teacher to ask if the boy could come to their building to decorate their dining area with his doodles.
“They wanted to get Joe into their restaurant to complete an art piece on their wall, and it was in their main dining area, we were over the moon,” Greg said.
Of course, Joe agreed to decorating the restaurant with his doodles. After school, Greg drives him every day to the restaurant to draw on their walls. The masterpiece took approximately 12 hours to complete, according to Greg.
