Jimmy Kimmel surely loves funny pranks and this time, he asked for the help of country star Carrie Underwood. The goal was to prank boot shop customers and surprise them with a ‘personal’ serenade from the lovely singer.
As a part of Jimmy Kimmel Live’s “Undercover Sing” segment, Carrie Underwood wholeheartedly and cheerfully gave in to Kimmel’s challenge. For the prank surprise, she had to sing in tune of her famous song “Before He Cheats” but she had to personalize the lyrics based on the customers at the boot shop.
First, she pranked the ladies from Virginia and went about their desire to buy boots for line dancing. They were initially unsuspecting but as the lyrics went on, they realized the song was actually about them. They started to laugh and when they finally saw Underwood, they were so shocked and happy.
The funny pranks continued as more customers came. All of them were unsuspecting at first but laughed hard as they heard the improvised lyrics. What stood out the most was the prank with the customer named Dan. Underwood started the song with the lyrics “Right now, Dan from Virginia is looking for some boots made out of ostrich.”
Dan couldn’t help but laugh as Underwood continued to swap the original song lyrics for fun facts about ostrich. Eventually, she broke her character and laughed at her silliness. Dan quickly caught on and was so starstruck when he realized what the whole scenario was all about.
The prank surprise ended successful and Underwood clearly made the day of all the customers she serenaded at the boot shop. This segment also showed how great of a singer Underwood is as she tried her best to match the lyrics with the tune and the customers’ description.
Carrie Underwood is undoubtedly one of the best country singers of all time; think Garth Brooks and Keith Urban. Her fruitful singing career, music awards and various achievements in television and film can attest to this.
On Wednesday, she will co-host the 2019 Country Music Association Awards with other country superstars Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire.
Apart from hosting, Underwood is also the only woman nominated for entertainment of the year. The last female artist who won under this category was Taylor Swift in 2011.
Underwood said that it was a great honor for her to be recognized in the top category. She also thinks women needs more opportunities to fully shine in the business. She said, “We have so much talent, we just need some more open doors,” she told the radio show. “And I don’t ever want any woman to feel like they can’t do everything, you know — [that] they can’t have this life and have a family and have all the things going on together and do what they do.”
It may take years of hard work, practice and patience to be as successful as the seven-time Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood. However, by lifting each other up and supporting one another, aspiring female artists can find success in the world of country music.
