Identical twin babies were delivered by identical twin nurses at a Georgia hospital

The surprising and amazing incident that happened to a NICU nurse and her twin sister will make anyone believe in serendipity.

On September 25 in Athens, Georgia, identical twin sisters Tori Howard and Tara Drinkard helped deliver twin babies, Emma and Addison Williams.

It Was Bound to Happen

Tara and Tori are both nurses in Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center where they were also born. Tara works as a NICU nurse while Tori works at the labor and delivery unit, caring for mothers after they have given birth.  Tara said she found out that morning she would be helping Rebeca Williams deliver her twin babies.

Right before the delivery, Tara was so surprised that her twin sister would be joining them in the delivery room. This made the twin sisters very thrilled and amazed by what was about to happen. They knew they would somehow cross paths and work together but didn’t image their first time would be with twin sisters like them.

Rebecca, on the other hand, was so relieved when she was told the twin sisters would assist her during the delivery. She said she was really nervous about giving birth through C-section but when she learned about the twin nurses, she instantly felt relaxed.

Special Delivery

Rebecca delivered the twins two minutes apart, both weighing under 5 pounds. Rebecca and her husband, Brannan, couldn’t thank the twin nurses enough for making the whole delivery experience more comforting. Knowing that the identical twin nurses would help deliver the babies extremely reduced the couple’s anxiety.

Brannan Williams said, “It was pretty neat because Tara took care of Becca in the labor and delivery room and Tori was taking care of Emma in the NICU.”

Tori and Tara were also delighted with the baby girls and their parents. They were very proud to be a part of such a memorable and serendipitous moment.

“It was so special to be in the twins’ delivery with Tori,” Tara said. “We have always worked well together, even when we were little.”

The Start of a Special Friendship

This astonishing incident was not the end for the twin nurses and the Williams. Because Rebecca works at the same hospital as a recruiter, it surely wouldn’t be difficult for them to reconnect after the delivery.

The Williams have developed a special relationship with Tara and Tori while at the hospital. They even asked the identical twins for tips on how to raise their baby girls.

“They have become our friends,” Rebecca Williams said. “I look forward to letting the girls know about this one day, and hopefully they’ll get to meet them and keep carrying this thing on.”

On Thursday, the twins (Emma and Addison) were discharged from the hospital and their parents were excited to meet Tara and Tori again and get to know them more.

It’s not every day that a marvellous and remarkable incident like this happens. The two sets of twins are definitely lucky!
