Most of us know that choosing authenticity in a culture that dictates everything from how much we’re supposed to weigh to what our houses are supposed to look like is a huge undertaking. Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are. — Brene Brown

Reblogged this on I am fearfully and wonderfully made and commented: This kind of got me thinking. How often do all chase so many things and try to be so many people. But if everyone is just trying to be like someone else, no one is really actually just being themselves. We all want to be popular, to be loved and accepted by people and sometimes oddly enough it's people that we don't even know. Why are we craving to gain so much attention from everyone else and even people who have no significance to our lives whatsoever? Is it because we lack love and attention from those closest to us that we try to seek it outside? Think about it, everyone wants affection but sometimes people rather get it through likes on a picture on Instagram rather than hugs and kisses and acts of loving kindness given at home. You know it reminds of a scene in "The Fault In Our Stars" where Augustus Waters is disappointed not being able to achieve his life long dream about being remembered by everyone. But it's Hazel that reminds him of the shortness of the infinity of our lives. We only have this one world, our one family and loved ones. Isn't that all enough? Why the need to be remembered and loved by so many people who don't even know you but forget the ones closest to you who love you the most? YYou see maybe it's because we're afraid. Afraid of love. Afraid to be loved. And that's why we'd rather hide behind screens and feel the 'love' from people halfway around the world rather than getting a good hug from a friend right by our side. How sad it is to see that the things that are supposed to be most important to us, no longer are. In this world, where everyone is just trying to be like someone else, maybe it's just time to be ourselves. Don't be afraid to love because love is natural. Love freely and give of it to everyone around you because truly, it's not the number of likes that you get on a picture that determines how well people love you and remember you but it's about how much love you give to all the people around you that make them want to love you too and remember you always for that.
And if I may paraphrase something from "The Fault in Our Stars" is that often we do not realize is that we aren't loved widely but we are loved deeply by those around us, and isn't that already more than most people ever get in a lifetime?
