Non-profit refuses to let veterans stay homeless, builds tiny home village to house them

The reason why there are so many veterans living in the streets varies, and this homelessness is a serious national issue needs to be addressed with urgency. Housing veterans who are homeless must be something the government should give priority.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, there are more than 40,000 homeless veterans in the country on any given night.

Veteran organizations across the country are aware of this problem, and they are doing their part by building tiny homes for veterans to live in while they get back on their feet.

One of the organizations pioneering in housing veterans and took this step is a non-profit called Clara White Mission in Jacksonville, Florida.

Due to a variety of disorders, disabilities, and medical conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder and drug addiction, veterans come back from service and find themselves without a job and eventually, without a home.

They are forced to live on the streets, with little to no hope of changing their desperate circumstances.

Organizations such as the Clara White Mission have made it their goal to help make a difference in these homeless veterans’ lives by providing them a place to call their home, until such time that they can afford to move out and live in their own permanent residence.

The non-profit built a neighborhood of tiny homes that are meant to be inhabited by homeless veterans. They strategically opted to place this neighborhood close to their headquarters, so that the veterans could have easier access to from their organization.

The Clara White Mission also seeks to empower the veterans by allowing them to help build their own homes.

Ju’Coby Pittman, CEO of the organization, aims to raise awareness about the plight of veterans all over the country. She said:

“They’ve sacrificed so much for our country, and now they need our help. These men and women deserve to live out the rest of their lives without worrying where they’re going to sleep at night. They deserve our respect. They deserve comfort, and shelter, and warmth.”

Each home measures about 200 square feet and are equipped with all the necessities that a veteran would need – a bed to sleep in, a place to read, and an area for rest and relaxation.

The Clara White Mission also seeks to go green on the project. They teamed up with a local company that builds tiny houses using recycled and reclaimed materials. Aside from lowering costs, this will make the whole project environment-friendly.
