Sometimes, little animals could use a helping hand in times of need, and Caio Giovani just gave that to an armadillo he encountered on his way.
One day, Caio was driving a truck along a dry stretch of road in Mato Grosso, Brazil, when he noticed a small “obstacle” ahead. He decided to stop the vehicle to check what it was, and discovered that it was a tired-looking armadillo.
“I could see he was not well,” Caio told The Dodo. “It felt like he was asking me for something … for some help.”
Fortunately, Caio was not the type of person who would just pass by an animal in obvious need of help. The man remembered that his truck had a tank of water on it, so he placed the armadillo in line with it on the ground and opened the spigot.
What happened next was a sight of pure delight. Caio looked on as the animal helped himself.
The armadillo was clearly grateful to have found relief in the stream of cool water coming out of the tank. He basked under the flow, and drank from the water collected on the crevice on the ground until he had enough. Caio then carried the armadillo to a shadier spot so that he wouldn’t feel the heat too much.
But the man’s act of kindness towards the animal didn’t end there. Aside from helping the armadillo quench his thirst, he also made sure that the shelled creature had something to eat in case he was hungry, so Caio left him a banana to munch on.
The two eventually parted ways. The armadillo – whose energy was restored by that momentary stop – watched as the man who was glad to have helped took off into the dusty road.
“I left him on the edge of the woods,” Caio said. “He was much better.”
