This winery invites guests to spend the night in a giant wine barrel

Does your love for wine go beyond the drink itself? If yes, then you might want to spend a fancy and relaxing getaway in this village in Germany.

Schlafen im Weinfass

It has long been a travel trend for oenophiles to stay overnight at guest houses on vineyards.  But, a village in Germany is taking it an extra step further – by letting guests sleep inside actual wine barrels that once produced wine for the region! How cool is that?

Schlafen im Weinfass

The vineyard located in Sasbachwalden, Germany is named Schlafen im Weinfass. It has eight 8,000-liter barrels that can be rented for overnight stays.

They are found above the wine village of Sasbachwalden and are furnished with large windows.

Each barrel provides a spectacular view and while you are there, you may enjoy watching the sunset with a glass of wine in hand. Sounds like the perfect getaway, right?

Rates start at $190 a night for two people, and that already includes a couple bottles of wine, pastries, and breakfast.

These wine dens could host people all year-round because every barrel is heated. Each of the barrels also features a toilet, seating area, comfortable beds, and a rock garden outside of the barrels where guests can enjoy the fresh breeze.

Aside from drinking wine and soaking in the beautiful getaway, there are plenty of outdoor activities that travelers should experience in the small town of Sasbachwalden. Guests can organize hiking and biking excursions in the Black Forest.

They may also visit the Triberg Waterfalls, some of Germany’s largest falls.

But don’t rush into booking one of the wine barrels just yet. You’ll need a bit more patience, as the popular barrel accommodations are mostly full until the end of the year. There are currently available dates in 2020.

In the meantime, you might want to explore other places that offer wine barrel accommodations, such as the Netherlands at Hotel Vrouwe van Staboren. Here in the United States, you may also discover wineries with lodging in Sonoma.

Don’t forget to share this with the wine lovers you know!
