Pittie mom shows off 8 newborn puppies in sweet maternity photo shoot

Pregnancy is always a special time, recorded at all stages with hundreds of photos and numerous parties.  But anticipating motherhood just reached a whole level with Mama Pickles’ cute maternity photos!

Mama Pickles is a heavily pregnant two-year old pitbull.  In September, she was found wandering by her lonesome, and obviously urgently needing help. She was immediately rescued by animal control officers, who exerted every effort to find her family.  When they got in touch with her owners, however, they decided that they didn’t want to take her back and left her at the shelter.

Being abandoned by her family surely must have added to Mama Pickles’ distress. The pitbull was at such an advanced stage of pregnancy that she required specialized assistance.  Fortunately, her fortunes turned when she was pulled by Pits & Giggles Rescue, an organization that focuses on caring for pregnant and nursing mother dogs and their puppies.

The sad orphaned pitbull was immediately excited by the prospect of a new and loving family.  The sweet dog got all excited, jumping all over her new friends.  She couldn’t help herself and kept looking for attention and kisses.

She was so animated that she kept moving around, even with her huge swollen belly.  According to Lauren Casteen Sykes, a volunteer with Pits & Giggles Rescue, “She is a ‘pit bull in a china shop.’  Mama Pickles is all tail wags and smooshy kisses and must be underfoot and in your space at all times! She is definitely a ‘velcro pitty,’ and certainly has a little bit of mischief in her eyes.”

Sykes owns Enchanted Hills Photography and part of her volunteer work includes taking photos of dogs and puppies to help them get adopted.  She immediately saw Mama Pickles’ potential when she arrived at the rescue center – the pregnant pitbull was the perfect candidate for a cute maternity shoot!  And Sykes was right – the resulting pictures were adorable and even better than what everyone imagined.

Sykes recalled, “She was so excited she could hardly sit still.  She loves affection and treats and was happy to participate! The hardest part was getting her to stay because she loves people SO much!”

Excited as she was, Mama Pickles turned out to be a total diva, which made the cute maternity shoot thoroughly enjoyable for everyone involved.  She could match supermodels with the fiercest poses, and simultaneously ruin shoots with her awkward belly and goofy personality – sending everyone into fits of laughter.

“It was hilarious,” Sykes said. “She is ALL belly and a bit clumsy, so getting her posed was not difficult, but getting her to sit still long enough to get a picture was no easy task! Her bows were crooked, falling off and tripping her up — we couldn’t help but laugh, she’s such a cartoon!”

Still, the results have certainly set the bar for cute maternity shoots for rescue pets.  Sykes’ stunning and awesome photos captured the image of a proud mother-to-be, who has faced enormous challenges and is ready to move on to a new, happier adventure. “She’s quite the model,” Sykes said.

“Her legs are certainly too short for runway, but she was really loving all the attention and affection.”  Mama Pickles is finally getting the love and recognition she clearly deserves, and it showed in her glowing pregnancy photos.

Soon enough, it was time for the cute little puppies to arrive.  They came soon after, and the cute maternity shoot naturally had to be followed by a newborn photo shoot!  Equally fantastic photos came out with the eight healthy puppies crowded around the proud mother.

The volunteers at Pit Giggles & Rescue are so thrilled for the pitbulls. The new family will stay at the rescue organization until they are adopted and find their forever homes, but for now, everyone is content to spoil Mama Pickles and her brood.

“This girly was clearly used repeatedly for breeding and we’re excited to make sure this is her very last litter,” Sykes said.  This rescue pitbull and her young ones now have a chance at having the life that they deserve.
