Law allows pets to be buried next to their human owners in cemeteries

For some, animals may just be animals. But for other people, their pets are more than mindless beasts- they are an important member of their family.

The strong bond between these humans and animals is definitely special for a lot of people, it is stronger than steel.

Over time, animals have already proven that they are faithful, loyal, reliable, and capable of loving us unconditionally.

With this in mind, it is only understandable that humans would love to be buried right next to their beloved pet. After all, since they belong to the same family, there is no reason for pets to be buried on a separate cemetery.

As a sign of respect to their strong friendship, it is rightful for humans and their animals to share an eternal resting place.

However, until recently, this was not the case. To be able to be buried right next to one another, humans must be buried on a pet cemetery.

Why? because animals were not allowed to be buried on cemeteries intended for humans.

Fortunately, the state of New York has come up with a revolutionary law aiming to recognize and respect the strong bond between humans and animals. Today, you can now legally bury pets alongside their owners across the state.

What makes this law even more awesome is that it is not limited to cats and dogs. The law allows people to bury a wide range of animals that they have already considered as a cherished family.

Cemeteries can now approve requests for animals or pets to be buried next to their owners. However, the law exempts religious and particular cemeteries. Despite of this, it is undeniable that the legislation allowing pets to be buried on human cemeteries is already a big accomplishment.

Humans and animals sharing the same resting place is not entirely new to us. 14,000 years ago, two people were buried together with a dog- presumably their pet, at Bonn-Oberkassel, Germany.

In addition, human-dog graves dating from 8,000 to 5,000 years ago have been discovered at Lake Baikal, Siberia. While, in Cyprus a remnant of a cat buried next to his human has been discovered to date 9,500 years ago.

With the news of the State of New York finally giving pets a legal right to be buried next to their humans, animal lovers have something to be happy about today.

Hopefully, other states all over America will follow suit and be inspired by the State of New York’s revolutionary law.

“For many New Yorkers their pets are members of their family. This legislation will give cemeteries the option to honor the last wishes of pet-lovers across New York.” Andrew Cuomo, the Governor of New York explained on his interview.

As of 2012, New York city has a growing population of more than 1 million pet owners. With the legislation of the new law, it is safe to assume that more than 1 million of the city’s population are overjoyed by the fact that even death wouldn’t be able to keep them away from their beloved pets!
