Country star Luke Bryan and wife adopt senior dog that previous owner left at the pound

According to the American Kennel Club, the average life span of dogs vary according to their size, breed, and general health. Life expectancy is 10 to 15 years for small breed dogs, 10 to 13 years for medium-sized dogs, and 8 to 12 years for large dog breeds.

But no matter how long they survive, the unfortunate reality is that we, humans, will always outlive them. That’s why when dogs reach their senior years, it is crucial that we shower them with the special care and attention they need. That is exactly what Luke Bryan and his wife, Caroline, did for a dog living his golden years.

The 18-year old dog named Poochie was surrendered to the pound because his family suddenly developed allergies. Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue, a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to“provide shelter and loving care for animals who have been abused, abandoned, owner surrendered or otherwise destined to be euthanized due to over-crowded shelter conditions”, pulled Poochie out from the pound and expected her to be “a forever hospice foster” – but that wouldn’t be true for this lucky dog.

Luke and Caroline spotted Poochie’s photo online, and the couple instantly fell in love – so much, that they decided to submit an adoption application. The organization shared the dog’s happy ending on its Facebook page, saying:

“After reading about Poochie on our social media, Luke Bryan and his beautiful wife, Caroline applied and adopted Poochie this past Saturday! He is pictured here with his new mom, Caroline and his previous foster, Lacy Marie! He is loving life on the Bryan farm and soaking up all their love. Who knows, maybe Poochie will inspire a country song!

“We are so thrilled for Poochie and know he is in great hands. Caroline Bryan has graciously given us updates on our sweet boy. Their adopting this sweet old guy will allow us the chance to save yet another,” the rescue’s founder, Lavonne Redferrin said, adding that she knows “there is a song somewhere in this story.”

Poochie did not only get a new home, but he also gained new friends! It is no secret that Luke owns a huge farm in Tennesee where he houses the animals he has rescued. So far, its residents include chickens, goats, llamas, kangaroos, and a whole other bunch of wonderful animals! Surely, there is never a dull moment in the Bryan home with all its furry tenants.

Poochie is definitely having the time of her life on the farm together with her newfound buddies. Shelter animals all deserve a loving family to care for them until they grow old, and we hope this story inspires more people to adopt and rescue them.
