Keepsakes are very important to us, which is why we make sure to keep them in a safe place so that we don’t lose them. But no amount of safekeeping prevented Lacey Butler’s mom, Kay, from losing something that holds more sentimental value than anything she’s ever owned – her wedding ring.
The priceless piece of jewelry has been missing for around 15 years.
“We searched the house high and low for months,” Lacey wrote on YouTube, adding that they concluded that the ring was either lost on a job site or stolen.
But on October 26, 2014, Lacey’s dad made a surprising discovery. He had found by chance a small wooden box, and inside it was the long-lost wedding ring!
“We knew reuniting [my mom with her ring] was going to be emotional enough but dad and I had to add a twist,” wrote Butler.
Lacey decided to capture everything on video, just to have a remembrance of the special moment.
In the clip, Lacey’s dad walks into their garage asking his wife, “What are you looking for?”, before kneeling down on one knee.
Kay had her back on him while she was standing in front of the pantry in their garage rummaging through boxes. She looked behind her and saw her husband, but she seemed oblivious to the fact that he was kneeling.
After a few moments, she finally closed the pantry doors and turned to look at her husband, who triumphantly held up his right hand and asked, “Will you marry me?“. At first, she had no idea what was happening – until she saw what he was holding in his hand.
As soon as she realized that it was her lost wedding ring, she fell to the floor with a loud thud and put her hands over her gaping mouth. She was left stunned and speechless!
“No way! Where did you find that!”, Kay says as she stood up and embraced her husband – who didn’t forget his previous question and asked her again, “Will you?”.
Kay said yes to her husband for the second time, and gave him a tight hug, burying her face into his shoulders and sobbing uncontrollably.
“I can’t believe it – and it fits!”, Kay exclaimed as she wore her wedding ring again.
Butler noted that her mom may have been a “little dramatic” in her reaction, “but hey, it’s her missing wedding ring!”, she wrote on YouTube.
Honestly, we would have reacted the same! We feel so happy for Kay now that she’s found one of her most treasured souvenirs. Surely, she missed wearing that ring on her finger!
