Woman gets letter from her neighbor — then realizes it’s addressed to her dog

For most people, adopting a pet is one of the best decisions that they could ever make in their lives. Aside from giving an animal a permanent home and a loving family, these four-legged companions could make an owner’s life happier than he could have ever imagined.

For someone like Maria Luiza Valcazara, having a pet was ideal. She was all alone after moving to a new apartment in Brazil, and her solitary life made her feel lonely.

So when she found a cute black puppy named Chips, she knew she had to take him home with her. Maria thought that Chips would be able to fill the emptiness that she’s been experiencing from living all alone.

And Maria was right – once she took the puppy home, they immediately bonded.

Maria had to work during the day, and she was nervous about leaving Chips home alone in her apartment. She was also worried that his crying and whining would upset her neighbors.

When she returned home one day, her fears were confirmed. There, outside her door, was a package with a letter attached to it.

Maria knew that she was in trouble and hoped that she would not be evicted from her new apartment because of this ordeal. She loved Chips so much, but she’s afraid that she might have to get rid of him because he makes too much noise whenever she’s gone.

“At the time, I was scared. I wondered who could have left it there at the door, since I had little contact with the people in the building,” she said.

However, when she opened up the note, she found that it wasn’t addressed to her but to her dog, Chips, and that it was “written” by another dog named Corote. Maria opened the package and saw that it contained a few dog toys for her pup.

Translated from Portuguese, the note read:

“Hi, my friend. I’ve noticed that you’ve been crying a lot when you’re alone, and I’ve been through this phase. I talked to my mom yesterday and together we decided to give you these toys, so you have a distraction when you feel alone. I’m here to make you an invitation: I live alone with Mom and, because of that, I have a room of my own to horse around in as much as I want, so you can spend some time here with me! We can do a lot of partying together!!! We hope you enjoy the things we gave you! Many kisses from Corote and of my mother Nichole.”

Maria couldn’t believe it – a complete stranger had sympathized with her and her pup’s situation. Instead of complaining, her kind neighbor was actually compassionate and understanding.

“When I started to read the letter, I cried a lot,” Maria said.

Even though she hadn’t talked with anyone in her apartment yet, she felt that she needed to meet Nichole and her dog, Corote. She reached out to her and arranged a playdate for their pups. Luckily, all of them jived immediately!

“Nichole offered to help me with Chips whenever I needed it. She gave me some tips she learned from raising Corote,” Maria told The Dodo.

Aside from gaining a new friend for herself and Chips, Maria also learned valuable advice from Nichole on how to deal with separation anxiety in pets. Now, the two pairs regularly play on the front of lawn of their apartment building.

“I concluded that there are still good people in our world. It was a beautiful gesture Nichole made for us. And I’m sure other people can benefit through their animals, too. I am an example of this. Besides having a neighbor, I now have a wonderful friend!” Maria said.

Truly, you can never go wrong with being kind – it will result to good things, always.
