Josh Groban’s song ‘River’ is all about having to find the light during the darkest times of life

There will be times in life that you will feel alone regardless of the number of people around you. There will be times in which you would ask yourself, ‘what are you here for?’ And there will definitely be countless of times that problems would overwhelm you.

If you have already felt these ‘unwanted’ emotions, well I’ve got news for you! You are not alone! You are not the only one in this world who feels lonely for a reason you cannot simply put your fingers on.

How Josh Groban climbed the ladder to stardom: “One day when music producer David Foster called Josh Groban and told him he was needed to stand in during a rehearsal for a Grammy Awards performance. As fate would have it, Josh was being asked to fill in for Andrea Bocelli who was too sick to make it to his rehearsal of “The Prayer” with Celine Dion.

Josh knew that this opportunity could lead to a potentially big break for his career, but he almost did not go to the rehearsal because he didn’t feel prepared. David had to convince Josh that this was an offer he could not pass up. He was right.” [source: Inspiremore]

Josh Groban, the 37-year-old multi-awarded music artist best known for his debut performance of The Prayer with Celine Dion, knows how it’s like to feel lost in life. Though the gifted music artist did not further elaborate on it, Josh Groban chose to illustrate his struggles in life through his newest song, “River.”

According to PEOPLE’s Brian Bowen Smith, Josh Groban’s inspiration for his newest single is all about having to find the light during the darkest times of life. “River.” He wanted to discuss the hardships of life and reassure his fans that they are never alone!

“Whenever we have dark times in our lives, whether we suffer from depression, or addiction, or anxiety, or even just having a really bad day, the worst is that it feels like we are suffering alone… Far too many people feel this way…

I hope this song and video are a reminder that it’s the simple steps, the smallest gestures, that can pull us back to the light. It’s those things for me. Find your ‘river.'” The singer-songwriter shared with PEOPLE.

True to his words, it is very important to find your ‘river’ when you are feeling lost. There are times in which even the simplest act of getting up, taking a bath, and going to work seem like a herculean task.

And sometimes one may feel embarrassed of sharing their feelings of incapability of accomplishing these activities for fear of being misunderstood. Josh Groban hopes that the new song he had written would inspire people like this to find their light and motivation in life.

The first time I listened to this song it made me very anxious, I felt going down to the river was to commit suicide. The lyrics still fill me with fear.
