For some, tiny houses are merely transitional homes. But for people like Helen, living in a tiny house is a dream come true, and she has no plans of leaving it in the foreseeable future.
In his YouTube channel Living Big In A Tiny House, Bryce Langston takes us to a tour of a tiny home in Auckland, New Zealand owned by a young woman named Helen.
“It’s actually my dad’s idea. I just had to move out of an apartment really suddenly and definitely was not in a position to buy a standard property. Dad showed me actually one of your videos on YouTube and I was hook, line, and sinker – just totally knew that this is what I wanted,” she told Bryce.
Helen became attracted to the idea of living in a tiny house because she loved the concept of living with less, which is something that she battled with.
She thinks she had succumbed to the disease of “more more more”, so the idea of living simply with more freedom and flexibility was so enticing for her.
She’s also really big on outdoor living, so she had the home designed to have an indoor/outdoor flow. Her tiny house had a wide deck with a single table on the side and a bench, perfect for daytime lounging.
The tiny house was built on her parents’ 17-acre property where she spent the majority of her teenage years.
It measures 3 meters wide and 8 meters long – a little bit bigger than the standard tiny house. The reason for this is that Helen sees this as her permanent home, so she didn’t want to make any compromises.
Once you enter, the lounge area is the first thing you’ll see.
The high ceiling gives the cozy house a spacious look.
Helen placed a custom built couch in the living area equipped with storage underneath. She says that she didn’t want any transforming furniture because she didn’t want anything to feel temporary or makeshift.
The kitchen had complete appliances – a stove, an oven, a refrigerator, a dishwasher, a full pantry, and lots of storage space above and below the sink. She also had a small dining table placed.
The first step going up to her loft bedroom also serves as storage space.
On the other side of the house is a tiny hallway where the laundry area, wardrobe, and her gorgeous bathroom can be found.
Next, they went up the loft where her cozy-looking full-sized bed is.
This cozy house had another loft space on the opposite side which serves as her entertainment area. Helen says that this is one of her most favorite places to hangout in the whole tiny house.
There, she had a comfy couch, a flat screen TV, and bookshelves.
Helen says that she spent about $140,000 on the whole house.
What an amazing living space! Helen is indeed lucky to call this place her home, and honestly, we think that this is one of the best tiny house layouts that we’ve ever seen!
