Video captures the incredible moment a homeless man and his beloved dog are reunited

The staff at Memphis Animal Services just witnessed what could be one of the most heartwarming dog and owner reunions ever seen.

They say that a dog is a man’s best friend, and the following story is a beautiful testament to that. For those of us who treat our pets like family, we know that losing them would be one of our life’s greatest tragedies. That is exactly what happened to Anthony Rogers, a homeless artist, who woke up one day without his dog Bobo by his side.

Although the pair had no roof over their heads, they have found family in each other in the streets of midtown Memphis. So when Anthony woke up early in the morning of August 31 realizing that Bobo was gone, he felt that a part of his life had been taken away.

The artist became homeless due to “devastating events in his life”, and he described Bobo – who he rescued from a drug house when he was just a puppy – as his “lifesaver”. Even though he didn’t always have food to eat, he makes sure that Bobo doesn’t go hungry.

Anthony and his friends didn’t waste any time searching for the pup. Friends made posters with the 1-year-old pitbull-labrador mix’s face printed on it and posted them all over the neighborhood.

Two weeks later, Anthony was met with a good news – someone had found Bobo at the Memphis Animal Services! Thankfully, someone who knew him happened to work at the pound and immediately recognized the dog when she saw him at the lobby.

Anthony’s friend drove him to the shelter and the pair shared the sweetest reunion ever. Their body language showed how much they missed each other during their time apart!

Bobo jumped into his dad’s arms and wagged his tail furiously, while Anthony was smiling from ear to ear, hugging his pet and basking in all the love that could only come from a dog.

But the good news didn’t end there. Before he left, the shelter neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated Bobo. They also checked him for heartworm and thankfully, the results were negative. To make sure that Anthony wouldn’t have to worry about Bobo’s needs too much, they sent him back with a year’s supply of heartworm prevention medication, a bag of dog food, a harness, leash, collar, and ID tag.

Emily Ziegler, a Memphis Animal Services digital administrative clerk, said:

“To reunite somebody with a loved animal that has been by his side day-by-day is a rewarding experience, and to know that Bobo will be able to be by his side for the rest of his life.”

A local animal hospital will be accepting donations that would go to Bobo’s future care.

With all that has happened, Anthony has this to say: “It means a lot to me. He’s a good guy, and I thank everybody for their time and for watching out for us.”

It’s a great comfort knowing that no matter what happens, you have someone who will stick by your side forever. For Anthony, that someone came in the form of his four-legged life companion – the priceless gem that saved him during the darkest moments of his life.
