Did you know that about 3 billion pizzas are sold in America annually? Almost everyone cannot say no to pizza and that includes Lexi Brown, a little girl who was diagnosed with cancer.
Lexi, who was in her seventh grade had a bad week; her chemotherapy had caused her heart to stop beating. And although the chemotherapy has taken a toll on her, she still could not suppress her strong craving for a slice of a cheesy pizza.
Knowing that there is now way that her parents would buy her Pizza, the witty little girl hanged a sign in her hospital room window, asking for a pizza delivery she is longing for!
Unbeknownst to the strong little girl with cancer, her hospital room faces the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at UCLA. When the college boys saw the signage she posted on her window, they decided to grant her wish. The fraternity members of SAE tracked down Lexi’s room and arrived in the hospital holding Lexi’s much awaited pizza, guitars, roses and more!
“Five guys come in, and they had a guitar and a dozen roses and a box of pizza. They introduced themselves and said, ‘We saw your sign; we’re here.’” Lexi’s mother shared with Love What Matters, recounting the event that made her daughter very happy.
“They stayed for half an hour, they sang this song and I started bawling my head off. I’m like, ‘I can’t believe these people are here for my child.’”
Chase Gasper, a member of SAE who also happens to be a soccer player of the UCLA men’s soccer team, found out that Lexi is an avid fan of soccer as well. And so, the kind athlete reached out to other soccer players. They returned bearing jerseys, t-shirts, caps, and soccer tickets for the strong girl.
“I texted my teammates and they all stepped up to the plate to visit her. Everyone who got to know her was really moved. It was an incredible experience and we really want her to get through it.” Chase shared, explaining how Lexi motivated him and his team to do their best in every game they had.
“When we played our game, we kind of played with an extra edge. We really wanted to win for her, and we did.”
The fraternity’s good deed for Lexi did not stop with that. Over the weekend, the selfless boys decided to do more for Lexi. The boys worked hard in decorating their roof with lights that spelled-out Lexi’s name. When they visited Lexi, they asked the girl to look out the window and see their thoughtful surprise for her.
“They had me turn around and look at the lights, and I saw my name over the roof.” Lexi shared to CBS news how much happiness the boys brought to her life. “I thought it was really cool. I didn’t think that would ever happen.”
According to Christian Wehrly, a member of SAE, all of their good deeds are nothing but a part of the SAE creed they have sworn in, “One of our creeds is being a true gentleman, and that’s following through and making sure that we can do everything we can.”
For young adults, the men of SAE sure follows a beautiful and dignified creed. If only all of us would be able to learn to do everything we can for others, our world would be a paradise!
Watch the inspiring video below and witness the generosity, kindness, and compassion which the college boys of SAE expressed to Lexi. The selflessness of the college boys and their dedication to make Lexi’s battle against cancer a little bit lighter, will surely warm your heart.
