With lots of fans waving signs in the audience, not every artist would bother to stop his own concert just to acknowledge one, but apparently, that wasn’t the case with Garth Brooks.
In two occasions – during the years 2014 and 2017 – the American country singer and songwriter had interrupted his own concert to acknowledge signs waved by two women who were going through a remarkable time in their life.
The most recent one happened during the last concert of his 2017 tour, where Garth took the stage in Lafayette, Louisiana. It was the final show and everyone in the crowd were enthusiastic than ever before, giving him all the love he could get as he was serenading everyone in the Cajundome arena.
The concert was going on as usual – the audience was singing along with Garth as he croons his most loved songs for the crowd – until a sign waved by an audience member caught his attention.
The country singer was drawn to the message of the card, and he moved nearer to take a closer look at who the person holding the card was. It turned out to be an elderly woman, who was all smiles as the camera panned towards her, revealing to everyone her sign that says:
“ELVIS WAS MY LAST CONCERT”
Her name was Barbara, and she came to Garth’s concert together with her daughter and granddaughter to celebrate her turning 89.
Barbara was a music lover, and it was true that she went to see Elvis live 40 years ago. But she had no idea that Garth would give her a special gift for her 89th birthday.
Garth approached her upon seeing her sign and said:
“You’re 89?” he replied. “You look fantastic!”
After a few moments, Garth proceeded to serenade Barbara with his own special rendition of “If Tomorrow Never Comes”. The next few minutes were beautiful to watch, as the audience sang along with Garth, and Barbara’s smile all throughout the whole song was beautiful to see.

Garth pulled off another one like this during 2014, where he interrupted his concert when he saw a woman in the audience holding a sign that says:
“Chemo this morning, Garth tonight, Enjoying “The Dance.”
Garth then said to the crowd:
“God just stuck his hand out and wrote this … You have all my strength, you have everybody’s strength in here and you go kick cancer’s ass!”
When Garth performed her favorite song, “The Dance”, the singer led her to the front row and serenaded her. Not only that, but he gave her a big hug and even left her with his guitar!
Teresa Shaw, who was battling breast cancer, traveled from Iowa to Minneapolis for the show. She told Fox and Friends that:
“I was just hoping that he’d see [the sign] and I could get it autographed. … I’m still on cloud nine.”
Teresa said that looking at the guitar gives her a “boost to keep going and finish out what I need to finish” after 13 rounds of chemotherapy.
