Three friends, Sonia Ulrich, Monica Kenyon, and Marla Saltzer never imagined that an ordinary night of drinking during happy hour, will turn into an epic night of saving another woman from facing her possible worst nightmare.
Sonia Ulrich was with her friends at Fig, a classy restaurant in Santa Monica, where they noticed a man at a nearby table drop something into the glass of his date while she was in the bathroom.
After the three friends discussed what they witnessed, Sonia eventually went to the bathroom and looked for the woman to warn her. When Sonia asked the woman about her date, she was in complete shock when she answered, ““He’s one of my best friends.” The woman said that they had known each other for a year and a half, and they even work together.
Sonia posted in her Facebook post what their friend Monica saw in detail, “He pulled her glass toward him, kind of awkwardly, then he took out a little black vial,” She continued, “He opened it up and dropped something in. Then he tried to play it cool, like checking his phone and hiding the vial in his hand and then trying to bring it back down slyly.” The man actually saw Monica staring at him.
They let the staff know about the incident, and the manager went over to their table and allowed the woman to order a sparkling water. He stopped by the girls’ table and said he couldn’t do much because he didn’t witness what happened, but assured them that he will let security know.
When they finally billed out, the waitstaff delayed them saying their computer is down.
According to Sonia’s Facebook post, “The poor woman had to sit through 40 more minutes, sitting across from ‘one of her best friends’ knowing that he was trying to drug her. Marla noticed him several times chinking his glass to hers to get her to drink. She played it cool…”
Later on, the police finally showed up and asked the man to come with them. The head of the security said they were able to review the security footage immediately and caught the man on tape while attempting to drug his friend. The man had been charged with the “intent to commit rape and drugging with the intent to commit rape.” according to Huffington Post.
Sonia said that she posted what happened on Facebook so that people will be aware that this could possibly happen to anyone. And yes, even in fancy restaurants or even with people whom you thought you already know very well.
“At least 10 stories of being personally affected by someone like this. Something like this. Those were only the ones who knew what went down. I am sure there were tons more stories throughout the restaurant and the hotel,” Sonia wrote.
Her post gained positive comments and support from people. The women were also shocked when some people kept walking up to them, grateful, and sharing their own similar experiences.
Random act of kindness will go a long way, sometimes… you’ll never know that you can be a hero and rescue someone from danger.
In a social experiment conducted by the popular TV show ‘What Would You Do?‘ it seems that a lot of people will do the same thing as our three heroes above. Watch below:
