Kindness need not be expressed in currency nor in grand gestures. Even offering your skills and services to help someone in need like lawn care, gardening etc. is already an act of selfless kindness.
That’s what makes kindness beautiful, it is not expensive nor difficult to do. And anyone with a compassionate heart can do it.
Rodney Smith, Jr. a senior student of Alabama A&M University, is showing to the world how much of a big difference his ‘simple’ act of kindness can do. The inspiring university student is now a viral star in Facebook after helping a 93-year-old woman with lawn care.
Rodney and his fellow friend, Terrence Stroy, have noticed that the 93-year-old woman living alone across their neighbor is in need of help in maintaining her lawn. Seeing the old woman struggling to haul her lawn mower from one end of her yard to the other, Rodney and Terrence enthusiastically offered help.
After helping the old woman with her lawn care they felt happy and had smile on their faces, Rodney and Terrence took a photo of themselves and posted it on Facebook.
“We did this sweet lady’s lawn today. She is 93, the neighbors told us that she been out their trying to cut her own lawn. Have no fear, raising men lawn care is going to make sure her lawn is done every two weeks ! Making a difference in our community !!” Rodney wrote on his Facebook post along with the memorable photo he uploaded.

As it turns out, the 93-year-old woman was not the first elderly who has been helped by Rodney and Terrence. Apparently, Rodney is fond of helping seniors, people with disability, and single mothers in doing their lawn care.
The duo’s free lawn care service was conceived after Rodney had seen an old man struggling in mowing his grass filled yard last year. To help the old man, and people of his kind, Rodney set-up the Raising Men Lawn Care Service in Huntsville, Alabama.
Originally, the university student has a goal of mowing 40 lawns. Surprisingly, in just a span of 2 months, Rodney, Terrence, and other young volunteers had already accomplished over 200 lawns. And these were all rendered for free!
“I decided to cut free lawns for the elderly, disabled, and single-parent mothers for free. I’m capable of cutting grass because I’m young.” Rodney shared.
To further their cause, Rodney has set-up a GoFundMe page in order to buy lawn equipment and uniforms for him and the other volunteers.

“I want to restore the importance and understanding of giving back to the community,” The admirable young man explained on his GoFundMe page. “I want to show our children (our future) that by helping others they too will receive a sense of accomplishment, self-esteem, moral value and purpose in themselves.”
As of now, the Raising Men Lawn Care Service has already gathered $56,386 which Rodney used in improving the free lawn service they are rendering.
Meanwhile, Rodney and his team of volunteers are doing everything they could to dedicate their time and effort in helping people, especially the elderly, disabled, and single-moms, keep their lawns always at its finest!
