Having a job that requires drifting to the vast sea always entails a one-of-a-kind adventure. True enough, three fishermen from Labrador, Canada had an adventure they won’t forget!
The three fishermen thought that it was just another day when they spotted a strange creature stranded alone on top of an iceberg.
According to the three fishermen: Mallory Harrigan, Cliff Russell, and Alan Russell, they spotted a strange looking creature on top of a floating chunk of the iceberg.

Based on their previous experiences, the three fishermen thought that it was a baby seal. After all, seals were the only kind of animal they have seen whenever they are this far off the coast.
That is why the three fishermen got the surprise of a lifetime when they realized that it was not a baby seal they were seeing but an arctic fox in the middle of the sea!

“It had probably got stuck out there looking for a meal,” Mallory Harrigan shared their theory to Bored Panda.
“Cliff says he thinks he got out there to check out a bit of meat on the ice and it broke apart, sending him out to sea.”
Knowing that they cannot simply let the arctic fox be left alone in the middle of the vast sea, the three fishermen moved closer to the iceberg to extend a helping hand.
Taking their time, they attempted and succeeded to get the lost fox onto their boat.

At first, the fox was scared and fought back against the three fishermen who were rescuing him from his grave situation. However thanks to the patience and persistence of the three, the fox finally boarded their boat.
“We were able to get him aboard even though he fought it,” Mallory recalled the events that happened.
“We knew we were his only chance for survival, as the winds had changed and were driving all the ice farther out to sea.”

Once the arctic fox boarded the boat, it quickly retreated to a corner as the three fishermen began their long journey back to the safety of the shore.
“We scooped him up and he retreated to the corner,” Mallory shared. “He was too weak to do anything when we brought him aboard, he slept most of the way! When we came to he was a bit nervous but once we fed him he was pretty calm.”
The lone arctic fox replenished his energy and slept throughout their voyage. There were times that it would wake up starving, so the fishermen fed him with the only food they had which is a can of Vienna sausages.

Once they reached the shore, the three fishermen fed the rescued fox with more than just a sausage to help it recharge the energy it has lost. Afterward, they released him back to its rightful home, the wild.
“We’re glad to have saved an animal,” Molly, on behalf of his two co-fishermen, concluded his interview with these statements.
According to Mallory, there were times that they see the rescued fox exploring old dog houses in the city of William’s Harbour, which is a much better activity than spending time in the middle of the sea!

One of the three fishermen who rescued the arctic fox, Alan Russel posted about their adventure and rescue mission on his Facebook account.
The compassion they have shown to the arctic fox last June quickly garnered hundreds of shares, impressing everyone who has seen it with their modern heroism!
True enough, not everyone can do and will do what the three fishermen did. Fortunately for the lone arctic fox, it was able to meet good Samaritans even in the most unexpected places, and even in the seemingly hopeless situation!
